So with the Opening Ceremony today the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Italy are underway. Who's watching and more importantly what will you be watching? I will be watching Hockey, the skiing events as well as snowboarding, bobsled and of course curling.

A friend took me to a hockey game last year, and been following it ever since. For me, going to try and tune in for hockey. Already watched one of the early games from the women's division this morning, Peacock was livestreaming it. It was Switzerland vs Czechia playing this morning, that shootout was close.
Also, some of the men's players are from the team I saw in person last year, the New York Rangers. So it's cool I've seen them play in person.

Normally, I strongly dislike watching live sports, but for some reason I do enjoy turning on the Olympics for a few minutes. I'll probably watch for a bit.

@Sunsy I watched the replay of the US/Czechia woman's hockey Last night. It was a great game. I believe men's hockey starts next week but I am not sure.
@UpsideDownRowlet I think what draws me to the Olympics is the variety of sports and sports that you normally dont see other then during the Olympics.

I do enjoy putting the Olympics and its winter spin-off on in the background when it comes around and that's coming from someone who normally won't watch any kind of televised sport!
It's probably down to the variety and novelty of seeing all these different events take place, as many of which get very little to no mainstream coverage! There are too many to mention but I love the Ski Jumps and the Skating races.
@Tasuki I also watched that US vs. Czechia replay after watching the live game. It was a great game. According to NHL on social media, the men's hockey start date is the 11th, yes, it does start in the middle of next week.

As a Canadian, the only sport I'll be laser-focused on watching is hockey.
At least back in the day we were always heavily favoured to win in curling and the Quebec athletes were always kicking ass at freestyle skiing. It's nice to be the best at something.
I used to watch the evening re-cap of the day, but I don't think I'll be tuning in for anything but hockey though.
At least this thread reminded me to watch the Canadian women's game vs. Switzerland tomorrow though. 3pm ET.
@Tasuki Will make note to put it on. Right now I'm watching Sweeden vs Italy womens hockey game live. Good so far, Sweeden has scored quite a few goals before 2nd period ended.
I think it's safe to say Sweeden is winning. They just scored a fifth goal, making it 5 to 1.

@Tasuki Cool. Hope you enjoy the game. I also watched USA vs Finland and saw the end of Canada vs. Switzerland for women's hockey today. Actually went to watch a movie on Peacock and saw the game was near the end of the third period so finished it before the movie.
Both of those games ended in a shutout. USA beats Finland 5-0, and Canada beats Switzerland 4-0.
After seeing the outcome of both games, USA vs. Canada is going to be interesting.

@Sunsy Yeah I watched the USA vs Finland game. Hard to tell from that game since Finland was coming off being sick, apparently they had to reschedule the Canada vs Finland game. Still it was a good game. Also spent some time watching the Luge and a bit of the Woman's Cross Country Skiing I think it was, and now I am watching some figure skating before bed.

I have on the replay of France vs. Japan for women's hockey.
@Tasuki So that was the team that got sick. I remember seeing something mentioned because one of the games got delayed. Glad they were well enough to play.

@Sunsy Yeah Finland was the team that got sick. Though they missed Canada's game they did say they would.play the US now matter if they only have 5 players and a goalie. So to be honest I dont know if Finland's best players were playing against the US or not.
In other news sad to hear what happened to Lindsey Vonn. I was really hoping she would get at least one more medal but with what happened and her age I am pretty sure her Olympic career is over now.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed the organ player playing The Legend of Zelda theme during the women's hockey game for USA vs. Canada. It sounded like the organ player was playing it during the third period.
Game was exciting though.
Really surprised the US beat Canada, given how big hockey is for Canada. Another shutout, USA 5, Canada 0.

@Sunsy I am guessing the fact that Canada's captain and one of their best players didnt play today due to injury is the fact that US was able to just dominate them. I was expecting a closer game but it was still good. Maybe if they meet again in the gold medal game it will be a bit closer.

@Tasuki I have to agree. Seeing Canada and USA win a shutout each, I was expecting a closer game too. Did enjoy the game and got an organ player playing The Legend of Zelda theme.

@Sunsy It was a decent game Canada seem to do what they could given that they had injuries. I didnt notice the organ tbh. Might have to go back and watch the replay to notice that.
