I was called a tube the other day. I think the person who called it me was frustrated and got their words mixed. I now use it as an insult, you complete tube!
The only thing that I find odd is that when "god" and "damn" are used together, it's the former that gets censored (usually to Arceus), and not the latter. I always figured the latter would be the infringing part in that context.
How I see it, there are religious undertones to it.
We have no problem with the word damn, however when you use along with god, you're either damning the god, or damning in the name of the god. Which may deeply offend those who worship said god.
So we change the context to a more neutral one.
Also... Removing one word over the other has a different effect on the post. "Oh damn it" makes more sense than "oh god it".
Yeah I couldnt name my slopoke annie. Wow someone finds that offensive?
I saw the original context in the notification email. Why would that be a censored word? I always thought it was one of the four thousand words for "butt".
Back in college me and a few friends decided to start using the word "spigot" (which is just another word for a sink faucet) as a joke-insult. Mainly because the word just sounds vaguely offensive and it would confuse people who thought they were being insulted with a slur before they would just get genuinely confused.

And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
@Tyranexx
Urban slang dictionary says the UK does indeed have a different meaning attached. Im in USA. The more I know.
Spigot and tube are my new words now.
How is one ok and the other not? Very strange given the origins. The word that's fine on this thread that you didn't censor was originally a slur against gays. The word that's not fine originally meant someone born outside of a marriage.
Not complaining I just think it's funny where the lines are drawn
Well I'd say that the current use of both words has changed from their initial use, while bugger is now used as a mild expletive (at best), whereas bar-steward is generally used as an insult.
This is brilliant, one of my faves (especially as someone with an English degree).
Strictly speaking, this is not NSFW, but if the mods want to err on the side of caution and remove the vid (or replace it with just a link), i will understand.

It certainly has. It just goes to show how flexible language is, especially English. The meaning of those two words in particular are still changing. The one that's censored on these forms especially I can only ever read it in a Python-esque voice. So it's pretty far from being offensive in my eyes
@NEStalgia if you stick pretty much any expletive before "tube" it works incredibly well as a slur. I can't give examples without falling foul of the filter but try it out.
@skywake I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty-headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
