But there isn't any skill involved in getting them...

There's spending time looking in the wild, or there's spending time breeding in search of ideal IVs.

Birdman

On my GBC Silver I killed a shiny Zubat and a shiny Golbat, and perhaps a shiny Marill but I'm not sure if I actually found it or just made that up.

Exactly.

I remember I caught a shiny something in GBC Crystal... but I know for a fact that I caught a blue Gulpin in Saphire. I just walked into the grass outside of the bike road, and poof! First pokemon I saw, and then it was a blue Swalot.

A shiny Banette (blue-green) and a shiny Starly (brown), both of which I just happened upon...

u save standing in front of palkia, beginn the fight, and then you have a minimum chance of fighting against a shiny palkia ... if it's not shiny then restart again do it again ... and again ... and again ... and again ... and multiple times again

You can also use Masuda's method, presumably coded into the game by Masuda himself. It's when you breed two Pokemon of different nationalities, and it's supposed to significantly increase the chance the egg Pokemon will be shiny. I've been hoping for a shiny Phione, but no luck so far.

It doesn't work if ditto is the one from another nation.

Edit: Retract that, yes it does. Sorry, got some wrong information.

I has a golden Onix I found in Soul Silver. I've been training it too. Oh, and the Red Gyarados, of course.

I've encountered several shinies in my old Gold cart, but I never actually caught any. I've seen a grey Ratatta, a green Exeggcute, and I think a white Vulpix. But Their levels were always much lower than my Pokemons' and I killed them all by accident.

Curious Question: If you bred a shiny Pokemon, will it give birth to another shiny Pokemon? I'm thinking of breeding another golden Onix from scratch, since I caught the one I have at level 36, so it's stats are a bit low.

I never Got a Shiny in the the game by walking in the Grass. I only get them in GTS now.
.
When D/P came out, I was Shiny hunting in the GTS.
Got like over a 100 of them, and most of them are Lv100.
I have like 6 red Gyarados,4 Black Carizard 4 Blue Mew and so on.
I Still don't remeber were I got that Shiny Arecs from, I can't get that in GTS, or I got it form a guy on Sebii.net
But Shiny pokemon, are not always a good thing.
And now I don't know what to do with all these Shinies

@Ricardo: No, the chances are still 1/8192...

The only way to increase your chances of hatching a shiny pokemon is to have one from a different language along with one from your language.
