Has anyone heard anything about Rune Factory 3 after it released in the states or have any personal impressions? I haven't played any of the other games, but I've been interested in giving this a try.
I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive in the mail. I can hardly wait.
The discussion is probably (well, with 100% certainty) infested with massive spoilers but if you don't mind risking it (or you don't mind spoilers), I'm sure you can find lots of opinions in the GameFAQs forum for the game:
I've got my copy now. If anyone has any questions, I'll be glad to try to answer them. I've only completed the initial tutorial so far so it might take me some time to come up with answers. But fire away anyway and I'll respond when I've figured them out.
I've never played a DS Harvest Moon or Rune Factory game before. But I have played Harvest Moon Animal Parade and Rune Factory Frontier on the Wii.
The first thing I noticed is the clock continues to run when you are inside your house. So you have to pause the game or close the DS to stop time.
Interesting. In HM/RF games usually going inside your house or another building stops time, so this is a surprise. Overall I have heard this game is fantastic though. Hope to hear more general thoughts.
I've still only barely scratched the surface. But here are some more observations...
The townsfolk are very lively...they really move around. A lot. Makes them seem more alive than in the other games I've played.
You have to experiment with buttons to figure out the shortcuts yourself. For example, it took me forever to figure out how to unequip something (without equipping something else). The best I've figured out so far is to press Start, select the item I have equipped, and press the right shoulder button. If someone figures out an easier way, please share it.
The game is a "blend" of the HM and RF games I've played (both on Wii, as I said in my previous post). The farming is mostly HM style. For example, it's one seed per square rather than one seed per nine squares. And you use fertilizer to maintain soil quality.
It might be my hearing but the background music (BGM) seems a little loud in relation to the townsfolk speech. There is no volume control for the BGM; you can only turn it on or off. So I've turned the BGM off so I can better understand what the townsfolk are saying. You also get full text so you don't really need to hear them. I just like to.
Yeah one thing about the Rune Factory games is that Farming and dungeon crawling are usually optional. So much freedom to do whatever you want in the game.
Just a quick question, do the L and R buttons do anything important? Because that could be a deal breaker for me, mine dont work anymore
Other than that, this game looks fun! Never tried rune factory, but I played harvest moon once, and this seems like a good game for newcomers to the series
The L button opens the quick inventory menu and the R button makes you walk instead of run when you use the d-pad to move. However, you can do both of those things using the touch screen as well so I don't think the L and R buttons are critical for playing this game.
