It was confirmed months ago that the two games will be on the DS, in order to be compatible with all the games since generation III. After generation V, I would bet money a "reboot" would be in order for the 3DS that would no longer be compatible with previous games (it's like the release of Ruby/Sapphire all over again).
I love how people say this when we know absolutely nothing about Black and White.
Sure, we can make loads of assumptions about the games just by the titles - stuff like how they'll go back to basics and how they could be revolutionary - but that doesn't mean you can say they'll be better or worse than anything else because we know nothing about them.

Yeah, sorry, completely misread his post. I thought he said "this game will be better than D&P." Ignore what I said, it's in the wrong context, in that case.
I have to agree though, as much as I loved DP, they still rank behind everything other than RSE in my opinion (and even behind Platinum thanks to its little additions). I would love for Black and White to blow everything out of the water.

Isn't the 3DS supposed to have bc with DS games? I think I misunderstood what you were saying.
@110percentful Yes, the 3DS will be able to play DS games, but Black/White are meant for our current DS systems so you can trade between generations III & IV. However, after generation V (this is what I was getting at) - compatibility will most likely be dropped for the sake of outdatedness.
The introduction of Ruby/Sapphire was a shock to some people because of it's complete incompatibility with Red/Blue/Gold/Silver. However, it was necessary to move the series onward. We'll most likely see a complete overhaul of the game mechanics that would never work with current games (just like the vast changes made between Gold/Silver and Ruby/Sapphire).
I wouldn't be surprised if generation VI wants nothing to do with previous games. It's sad to think that we put all this effort in to the current games, knowing full well that we won't be able to trade them with newer Pokemon games 5+ years down the road.
I'm sure with Generation VI, it will be backwards compitable with all Pokemon DS games with something similar to Pal Park, so no worries there. Pokemon Black and White are very simple titles, I like that.
I like the idea that they're going back to simple names for the next generation. It was worst with Ruby and Sapphire and such because I was wondering how many more gems they were going to use! Anyway, I'm a little old for Pokemon now, and I've owned Red, SIlver and Diamond, so it's a little hard for me to get excited over a new generation. As far as I'm concerned, the first 250 or so were more than enough.
If news comes out that is cause to be excited then... I'll get excited. For now, just the name doesn't really say much at all.

I am very optimistic about these games. So far so good; I like the simple titles and the 2 new Pokemon already announced. More news is supposed to come soon, so I'm still hopeful!
lol I just remembered something. People have made all of these fake pokemon games like pokemon quartz, topaz, etc. and there was one with the 2 versions as pokemon black and white.
They'd be 'running out of colors' when the games are named 'Pokémon Peach Burst' and Pokémon 'Turquoise Tint'.
