I don't suppose anybody knows whether or not there are any plans to release this on dsiware outside of Japan? I know it hasn't even been released there yet but I thought that maybe somebody might be in a position to know a little bit more about the future of this app.

Annoyingly, I had the idea of creating pretty much exactly the same thing as this on the morning right before I heard of it's existence. I dismissed the idea out of hand as I didn't think Nintendo would allow it regardless of how much reassurance was given that it would be a safe, enclosed environment and wouldn't be used to hack the console.

I'm obviously in agreement with everyone here that believes it should. In regards to hacking the console I thought since they're already going to release it in Japan it would be past the point of no return in that regard. If this happens then we're probably pretty much guaranteed not to get it though.

Hacking - There's no doubt in my mind that this thing will be designed around not giving the programmers any way to access memory that they shouldn't. That's not to say these clever hacking chaps won't find an exploit, but it's not going to be made too easy for them.
As for typing - This thing is set up like an old 8bit computer. Very much designed to emulate that and I think it will stop this becoming anything but a niche product. They could have made the programming work in a much more visual way - look at Little Big Planet 1 & 2 - the editors in those allow for some pretty complicated algorithms to run from a relatively simple drag and drop interface. I think this could have been presented very differently making it a lot more accessible to a bigger audience.

I've decided that I'm holding off buying a 3DS until after I move to Japan, and this will probably be my first download. Then I'll stalk the company making it because I'm moving to their city and I spent many years programming games in QBASIC, so the way I see it they OWE me a job.
