Random events faced by real pioneers - such as disease, bandits and hitchhikers - and side missions add more excitement to your westward trek. thats the game now leave your impressions....we all probably have points cards from christmas so please...someone get the game hah
I am on my first play through (on easy), and I am loving it. One kid has died so far, and all my character said was "not the smart one!" and we kept moving on. Life is tough on the trail.
edit: and it is Oregon not Oregan, not to nitpick but I live here so I have to say something haha
It is quite fun. I'm playing on normal and am almost through to the end. You meet up with various historical figures. There are quests you can do (racing other people, carrying boxes to certain places, giving people rides to forts). The game prompts you to hunt, pick berries, and go fishing every once in awhile. Theres an abundance of places to make money, I have no problem having enough money to buy supplies at forts.
The one thing that suprised me was the loading times. It loaded when I first started the game, and it loads before and after you forge rivers, and before and after you start a minigame, but they aren't terribly long loading times. 5 seconds maximum.
Also you get to choose to be a merchant, farmer, or craftsman and between 3 different types of wagons and the start of the game. You can name all your characters (family of 5) if you want to. At certain points there are branching paths, and there are quests you can except... lots of replay in this game
This game is worth the 800 points. I've been playing thru the easy mode and my son has been watching me play (he's 2). Anytime I get my pic taken, I take his and he thinks that is cool. The load times don't surprise me on this - I have this game on my phone and it is not nearly as good as this version and that one also have load times up the ying yang. Here's hoping the GameLoft has more planned for the DSi.
ok ok i know the game is worth $8 but would you pay $10 for it....i just dont want to waste all my christmas points fast...i already spent 700 and only have 1300 left
ok i just downloaded it...ill play it tonight and give you impressions tomorrrow....i figured if it wasnt worth the 800 i'd be able to save others the 800
.....ok the game is good...however iii wish i did not get it...the minigames are pretty fun accept for hunting which is just lame and cool things can happen on the road like my son got taken away by an eagle because i didnt click the screen fast enough even though i was given a small hint before...i enjoy a more pick up and play for DSiware like bejeweld or pyoro so this game isnt really for me and im not too happy i downloaded it....however if you do enjoy more of a lengthy game from DSiware then get it..cause its pretty good...ill keep playing and let you know if i change my mind
So my kids have managed to catch cholera, typhoid, and a couple of other sicknesses in my first ~30 minutes of playing. I haven't lost any yet, but I can tell it's only a matter of time...!
Just completed a playthrough after playing non-stop for some two or three hours. Excellent purchase, in my opinion.
It's quite a bit like good ol' Oregon Trail, but with many of the challenges replaced with minigames. Normally, minigames are a bad thing, but they're so quick and varied here, they work to great effect. The game actually plays with a fast pace, and you'll never go more than a few seconds without an event to tend to. The character design is cartoonish, and fits well. Plus, the games got quite a sense of humor to boot.
Another thing to note is that the graphics are great. The sprites look nice and animate fantastically, not to mention humorously. (Who ever thought watching a kid get mauled by a grizzly bear could be funny?)
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this is one of the best 800-point purchases currently available.
