Topic: Opinion on downloading "legal roms"

On YouTube is one guy who pretends to be "the ultimate Pokémon news source on YouTube" called giancarloparimango11
he brought some updates about Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver and even got enough people to pre-order the games from Play-Asia so he would get the 2 games for free (if I understood correctly)
When I checked out his channel today I was stoned when I noticed that he already started a walktrough of Pokémon HG yesterday, even though the games were not even out in Japan yet
After doing a little research (not really a research, was pretty obvious) I found out that this guy is using leaked roms and a flash cart in order to be able to play the games on his DS
He said in another video of his that it was legal because he already ordered the games, but afaik it isn't legal to use roms, regardless if you own the game or not
So I called him out for the douchebag he was IMO and eventually I got attacked by some guys calling me bad names because they thought he did the right thing
I know it's a long back story, but now I wanna hear your opinions on this
Do you think you have the right to download the roms of a game if you pre-ordered it?
What do you think about this?

If he's already pre-ordered it, surely he can wait a liiiittle bit longer. Sounds like b******s to me. Piracy is baaad mmkay!

I hate it when people download games that can still give the the developers money (i.e. this and arguably last generation)

the reason he didn't wait longer is because he was bragging about him making the fastest walktrough of all
funny how he got beaten by the rival and got 3 facts wrong in only 4 parts

sorry but i think Nintendork and irken004 didn't read properly; he paid for the games (not really him, but his fans) and to speed up his walktrough he downloaded a leaked version of the games from the internetz, because he still has to wait about 1 week for the game to arrive in his mailbox

He didn't pay for the downloads though. Pic is still appropriate

ROMs, hacks, all this crap sickens me.

people like to throw around the 'i already own the game, so it's just a backup copy' excuse, but that excuse only works if the ROM you have was actually dumped from the cartridge you own. you can't download a ROM from the internet that was taken from someone else's cartridge and try to call it a backup of your own copy; that's where it gets illegal.

in other words, no, you do not have the right to download a ROM from the internet, because you did not purchase that cartridge and the person who originally uploaded it also had no right to distribute it. what you do have the right to do is dump your own ROMs and use those as your own personal backups if you like; do your own research on that if you're interested.

He illegally obtained the game, therefore he broke the law. There are no such things as "legal roms"

He must OWN the game, not ordered it. So he broke the law.

i dont really care i have and acekard for my DSi besides the loss of bussiness of buying a game is a very small profit loss unless the whole world buys flashcarts LOL
