When you're saving your Flipnote, save it on a cool page. That will be the page that shows up as the thumbnail image. It makes it much more interesting to look at on the Hatena webpage than just a blank page or one that says 'end'. (People would probably be more interested in watching at it as well.)

Feel free to add any other tips here.

Wow, thanks for those tips guys! I did realize that what page you save your flipnote on is the thumbnail that shows... that is a very good tip though ;) My tip would be to double post your flipnote to at least 2 or 3 different suitable channels for maximum viewing pleasure for all. ;)

If anyone has gotten the breathing paint thing to work please enlighten us. Also here is a really good tip for animating with backgrounds.
1)Draw your background without drawing any characters or anything.
2)Copy and paste your background over as many frames as you want.
3)Proceed to draw your animation as usual over the backgrounds.
This way you can get an unaltered background and regular animation with only one layer.

With the advanced tools on, holding the L button will open up new tool options, such as for bigger pens, Erasers that leave shading behind, The ability to merge two layers together, the ability to import sounds recorded in the DSi Sound channel and more.

i think everbody knows that you can do straight lines by holding start and vertical lines by holding select whil drawing.

@Roopa132

The area you select does not need to contain any paint whatsoever; all you need to do is follow the correct order of events. First, select the paintbrush (and whatever paint style you want), then choose the selection tool, select your area, and blow. That will fill the area with the paint type you chose just before using the select tool.

Post in multiple channels. Some of you may not be aware that once you've posted your Flipnote in a preferred channel, you can head to another (applicable) channel and submit it there too. It will only show one Flipnote under your posted list (unless you edited in between submissions), but now it will be listed under multiple channels, and you'll get extra exposure (and more stars).

Hey Rezon: I love your pixel / sprite art, but how do you keep everything perfectly within a grid like that? I've tried using a fat pencil and holding Start and so forth, but I don't see an easy way to keep each little square I add in line with the others in a uniform grid. Or do you create one pixel then drag copies into place?

This.

I create one pixel, and then build pieces out of it. Two horizontal and two vertical (and sometimes longer if necessary). Once you get it down, it really doesn't take long. (and thanks for the compliment!)

Thanks for this helpful tip. Did you know that you can use these buttons not only for drawing lines but also they work for making selections as well.

Another useful feature I have not seen documented is related to the Undo button. Its divided into two parts, a left facing arrow (Undo) and a smaller right facing arrow which is "Undo your last Undo". Great for those times you go one Undo too far.

Always go at least at 6 speed. It makes your job harder, but 5 0r under is just too jerky.

And always buy shoes in the afternoon, after your feet have expanded.

How do you view Flipnotes Backwards?

Does anybody know how to send messages? When you go to hatena from your DSi then there's a button "Mail" but there never is something in there and when I click on it there are no further buttons (like "Send Message" or something...)

To Roopa132: It's not like e-mail in the sense that you can send communications back and forth. But it will send you messages on the status of your Flips like when people make you a favorite, leave comments on your Flips, or when someone makes a spinoff from one of your flips. But I think you have to have the "recieve messages" turned "on" in your settings. I hope this helped.

If you lay down a solid color, then use a certain paint over it with a different color, you will make a new color. You can make purple, brown, dark red, and dark blue.

Just let it happen.

Hello frogger!

Enable advanced tools: At the title screen, hit the small wrench in the top right corner. In page 3/4 you can turn advanced tools on.

Select Tool: In a flipnote, you'll find the select tool in toolbox page 3.

You may want to skim the advanced tools section in the Flipnote help manual.
