I feel it would be less that Nintendo discontinued and more that stores didn't think these would sell so they ordered a small amount. It might take a while for stores to realize people want these figures and order more. Hopefully Nintendo themselves can set up their own online store where once you order they will print it and ship it out to you. So they can continue to sell less popular figures while stores can continue to stock the popular ones.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Christmas is in less than a month...
People are getting Smash Bros. for Christmas/getting money to purchase Smash Bros...
The New 3DS (which has NFC built in) and NFC adapter for regular 3DS systems is coming out next year...
All three of these things, which are in the future, would spur people that have no reason to buy Amiibo right now to get them after the dates those things happen. Nintendo discontinuing certain Amiibo right now, this early on, would be a loss of money on their part. RUMOR = BUSTED
Rather hear it straight from the Cow's mouth than the Milkman's. I remember a similar situation with Ninjini (Skylanders) figures. Long story short, I LOLed when people online brought it at double the MSRP because of demand and rumors but was later restocked at retail stores.

Amiibo hasn't been out a month, they won't be discontinuing these figures so soon, they need to recuperate the costs for design, moulds, production, distribution etc. PER character figure.

I think retailers are only saying that certain amiibos are being discontinued because Nintendo hasn't told them exactly when stock should ship to them.Additionally,I think since the Wii U isn't selling as well as Playstation or Xbox, stores may not have ordered enough figures, thinking that they would only work with the Wii U.

They aren't discontinued... it is just gamestop can't currently order new stock. But that has happened before with other products until the manufacturer catches up.

All the retailers in UK I checked today have Marth, Wii Fit Trainer and Villagers, so I suppose they've just got another delivery with more amiibo. Seems like none of them were discontinued? I feel sorry for all those people who bought Marth for 30+pounds of ebay

I think retailers got another batch of these 'rare' amiibo. Check out fnac.be, they sell every amiibo at a normal price (They only ship in Belgium though),
and today in Louvain they had something like 6 marth figures.
Yep. My local argos got WFT and Villager in (had it on reserve). I didn't check marth as I already had him. This is in Ireland encase people were wondering where.
