I really have no idea what Nintendo is doing with Amiibo. I mean, Amiibo figurines are just around the corner (you can already order them). They made a updated 3DS just for them. And the first game that uses them (Super smash 3DS) is around the corner. But we still not know WHAT they will do! I wonder how many people already preordered them. Sure they look nice, but what's their use? If Nintendo want to make this a succes, they should start revealing soon!

Nintendo explained specifically what the Amiibos would do in Smash at E3.
Not for 3DS version they didn't. Think about it, have you EVER seen video of an amiibo in SSB for 3DS? No, you haven't, b/c the last video we saw - I think it was that all day Friday Treehouse video - they said amiibo would be patched in next year. So even if you had an amiibo right now you coudlnt' use i tin SSB for 3DS b/c they arne't in there yet and therefore we don't know what they will do.
Someday we'll find it

SSB or 3DS doesn't use amiibo yet, not until next year when they patch it in, so technically SSB for U will probably be the first game that allows amiibo support. MK8 is out but the other 3 - Captain Toad, Yoshi adn MP10 don't even have dates yet. Neither does SSB for U. And they haven't shown the amiibo in MK8 yet either. The things are vaporware.

Well don't tell me that, tell him You responded to his comments which were :
"They made a updated 3DS just for them. And the first game that uses them (Super smash 3DS) is around the corner. But we still not know WHAT they will do!"
He mentioned 3DS twice by name and the game being just around the corner so I think it's safe to assume he was wondering what the amiibo would do in the 3DS version of SSB. And as far as I can tell we haven't seen any game play footage of amiibo in that version.
I'm not trying to be a jerk I'm just looking to get and share amiibo info - which there seems to be very little of at this point - just like everybody else.

Yeah, they just think it isn't the right time yet. But I guess there will be a Direct very close to the release. Either they plan something big, or its just another of their soon forgotten peripherals (like the Circle-pad pro).
"Nintendo explained specifically what the Amiibos would do in Smash at E3"
Not that I remember. The only thing I know is that they do "stuff" in Smash. But WHAT exactly is a miracle to me.
As for Smash 3DS: The New 3DS has a NFC chip, wich they definitely added because of Amiibo. They already said that both Smash versions would use Amiibo. Yeah, I guess Amiibo support will be added for Smash 3DS as a update. But there won't be Amiibo support on the regular 3DS (not that we know).
But yeah If Smash Wii u gets released in November and has Amiibo support from the get go, then that's the first game who utilizes Amiibo.

Thanks for the E3 video. I never saw it, did it come after the E3 Digital event? So if I understand correctly, Amiibo in Super smash Wii u is used to upgrade your characters?
As for the 3DS peripheral, I think it is canceled in favor of the New 3DS. But we'll see!
^ URK! I was worried about how those poles could support some figures like Captain Falcon or Fox, but those stand out way too much. Those amiibo don't look like Smash Bros Trophies with the pillars there. I think they should have made the pillars clear or made the poles large enough to support everything they need to.
It seems like those ones have less detail than the figures shown at E3, though maybe that's because of the photo quality.
All these quotes really say nothing at all. Miyamoto heavily references the Mario Amiibo, which I find problematic simply because Mario's functionality cannot be similar to say Wii Fit Trainer or Pit from Kid Icarus since those characters don't cross over into anything else, or for Pit's case he's not even in any other Wii U titles. I can't help but feel these will be rather pointless outside of the specific game they are created for. They're gonna generically hold stats or data of some kind but there is no way each unique character is going to implement some new feature for every game they utilize. Miyamoto talks about wanting to do Giant Robot Amiibos or the Arwing from Starfox, but says so as if he has no idea what the functionality is. What could these possibly do outside of their distinctive games? I scan an Arwing into Captain Toad... and what happens? I scan a Giant Robot into Mario Party 10... and what happens? This is all going to branch off into messy explanations like "No. you need THIS Amiibo to do THAT." Simplicity Nintendo, simplicity! Where has it gone!?
I have a feeling that for some games we'll get some characters that have more value than others. Maybe the Mario Amiibo for Smash will do something fairly trivial in a lot more games than the Link or Pit ones. Makes sense given Mario is in more games. However I wouldn't be surprised if some games do have something interesting happen with every character.
Maybe Animal Crossing on the Wii U has different kinds of furniture unlock when you scan in an Amiibo. Maybe when the game comes out the Mii channel gets an update that allows you to scan in the character and unlock outfits along the lines of the Streepass games. Maybe those themes they're pushing out for the 3DS go further, land on the Wii U also and maybe scanning in the Amiibo unlocks a theme you can't otherwise get. Perhaps they have some free toy-style game along the lines of the 3DS' built in games that uses them we haven't been told about yet. Or maybe they are going to be largely useless piece of plastic that we all buy up anyway because we're suckers for that sort of crap....

Well, looks like I'll be buying significantly less amiibos now due to those HORRENDOUS looking freaking protrusions called "support poles". What ever happened to that clear pole that used to hold Link up? That looked great! It was thin and barely visible. Why the heck did they have to make it bright freaking yellow! And don't even get me started on fox. Why the heck is there a stupid looking purple thing under his leg? Are these supposed to make the characters less "breakable" for little kids? Because if that's the case, they lost a couple sales from me. I was probably going to buy the whole batch, or at least most of it. Now it's only Samus, Mario, and Kirby for me so far for series 1.

What I got from that initial video — you have to pay extra money to get a better A.I. in Smash Bros, and paying extra money may allow your character additional features. In other words 'pay to win'.
I doubt I'll be buying any of these seeing as I have zero emotional attachment to Nintendo's roster's of characters. Now, if a Sonic one appears, or something else by Sega, then I could buy just the one to see what all the fuss is about.
How on Earth is it "pay to win"? It's an AI that can be leveled up to Level 50 and you can fight it, your friends can fight it, or your friends amiibo can fight each other. How is that pay to win?
Also, there will be an amiibo for every Smash character, so Sonic will have one.

I just hope that they make a least one alt amibo for characters that have gender swap alts. I would pay double for a Fem!Robin.

Skylanders make you pay to win. You have to buy the figures to win the game
