it dies after days of power down. when i power it on it shows red led and refuse to come back unless i power it with charger. this never happens with my old 3ds which can stay power off for months. is there anything i can do about it? power leak? static current?

@Xuefer Get a new battery.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

I will if it helps, but i can play for hours using this battery. are you saying that it is possible for a Li battery to discharge itself?

@Xuefer Yes, all batteries slowly lose charge over time. The older they are, the faster they discharge.

if it's a normal (low amp) discharge, either by the battery itself or by 3dsl, how is it even possible to stay power on for hours?
i wonder if anyone was hit by the same problem

@Xuefer I am not trying to be rude, but you ARE turning the power completely off right? Not just putting it into sleep mode? Also how are you storing it? If it is in your backpack or something, something could be turning it on and off.

@Heavyarms55 thanks for your reply. i turn it off by pressing the power button then press the button on the touch screen. i store it in my n3dsll bag which is sit still in my cabinet. n3dsll fit in the bad perfectly, i'm sure the button isn't pressed

Maybe it's time to get a new system

No, I mean, a new system (recently bought, not used yet), not a "new" system (new nintendo 3DS, new nintendo 2DS).

As in, replacing the unit.

If it's defective and you are not happy with it, replace it.
