Topic: What would you think if they made a Splatoon game on 3DS

Maybe I'm thinking a bit too far out here here, but there are certain franchises for which Nintendo maintains a presence on both home and handheld consoles. Do you think Splatoon could become one of these franchises?

I think they might be able to do something clever in a 2D sidescrolling perspective. Imagine a similar type of gameplay, but instead of large arenas, you are playing on 2D maps.

I highly doubt 3DS is getting anything Splatoon related. Highly. Doubt it. There's 2D gameplay apparently in Splatoon already. If that becomes a smash hit then expect another Captain Toad situation. 2D Splatoon on Wii U. I can see THAT happening.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I don't think those were gameplay. I think they were just part of the trailer as an adornment or easter egg of sorts.

Why would Nintendo waste a 2D game on Wii U when the 3DS is starved for 1st Party games?

You sound like this is about you, cause god just because you don't have nothing to play next year on the 3ds,doesn't mean we all have that same feeling.

I doubt Splatoon is getting a 3DS game, the game was designed to help sell Wii U's. Making a 3DS game would defeat the purpose. Maybe the next handheld will get one though.

Why does everyone always assume that 3DS games need to be 2D sidescrollers? You get this in Metroid threads too, like for some reason it's a given law that a 3DS Metroid game is 2D and a Wii U Metroid game is 3D. This sort of ideology would have prevented Super Mario 3D Land and Kid Icarus: Uprising from ever being made, and Rayman Legends and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for that matter.

That said, sure. I think Splatoon has as good a chance as any of being the next "big" Nintendo IP. Maybe not Mario or Pokemon big, but perhaps Metroid or Donkey Kong big. That means releases on most platforms.

I personally have plenty to play on 3DS. I just got mine at the end of last year. But it's a fact that the first party lineup has been underwhelming as of late, with little apparent relief. Next year, the only 1st Party titles announced are Fossil Fighters, STEAM, and MM 3D.

They don't. I love the 3DS for its ability to pump out console quality experiences.

But Splatoon very much seems like a game only possible on an HD system. A 3D Splatoon experience on 3DS just seems impossible to me. Also 2D games take less advantage of hardware and are cheaper to make, so they are generally suited better for handheld

Kid Icarus Uprising's online says otherwise. Splatoon's online would probably have to be limited somewhat, but it could be done on 3DS if they wanted to. Splatoon of course won't happen on 3DS, but another entry in the Splatoon franchise definitely could.

I remember saying this was going to happen at E3 and people thought I was crazy.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Title doesn't make sense, they haven't made a Splatoon game on 3DS to do another one but if you said "but on...". But if you mean what i think you mean then, see above.

It would be amazing, but I doubt it happens. It had to be exclusive for the New 3DS anyway.

no proper second circle pad? no fast paced shooter.
stylus aiming is horrible IMO. if you can play like that then good for you but a lot of people can not

Didn't stop them from making Kid Icarus: Uprising, which is a fast paced shooter. Sorry you can't play it, but just because you can't play with stylus aiming doesn't mean no one else can.

You don't need a 2nd circle pad if it's 2D.

Yes, and KI:U's control scheme is heavily criticized because it not only has a steep learning curve, but is also practically impossible for lefties such as myself to use due to the circle pad being on the left side of the system.

I'd like to point out that my favorite game ever is Kid Icarus: Uprising. My good friend @Prof_Clayton enjoys Kid Icarus: Uprising a lot as well.

By the way, we're both left-handed and have had little to no difficulty playing the game.

how could splatoon work in 2D? that would be such a downgrade. especially with a sidescrolling perspective.
top-down could work but 3rd person is best for the gameplay.

@discussion about kid icarus:
the discussion only shows that the game isnt for everybody. that is what i wanted to say. if the 3DS had two circle pads then we would definetly have more shooters on 3DS. if you rather play with a stylus. fine. i freaking can not!

But after you learn it, it plays flawlessly. I actually spent over 70 hours playing Kid Icarus and I don't remember ever struggling with the controls.

If you have a Circle Pad Pro then you can play it with lefty controls, which look to control the same as the right handed controls.
