I bought a 2DS + Pokemon Y as well, and I absolutely love it. Best handheld in years.
Depending where you live, 2DS + Pokemon Y is probably cheaper than the 3DS XL unit.
And really important; Pokemon barely uses the 3D effect, so you won’t miss anything on a 2DS.
Alright so what is the difference between a DS lite and 3ds besides one having 3d capabilities. I like being able to play GBA gameson the ds lite
I just upgraded from a DS lite to a 3DS XL last week (in time for Pokemon X ofc) and the difference is astounding. It's like comparing night and day. With the 3DS you get:
Miiverse
eShop (that is simply a delight to DL from)
The Friends list (makes online multiplay a breeze and it's also fun to see what your friends are up to)
Swapnote (which is a fun, easy way to interact with the people on your friends' list)
Streetpass (I honestly haven't used this as much as I'd like but it's a fun incentive to carry your 3DS with you everywhere)
A (surprisingly) decent internet browser
Superior graphics. First thing I'd recommend anyone purchasing a 3DS to do is download the demo of Fire Emblem: Awakening off the eShop and turn the 3D to truly see the beauty this system is capable of.
Worth every cent imho. Also, the 3DS Virtual Console will be your friend for the Gameboy games you want to play. Unfortunately, we're still waiting on GBA games for the VC so if that's all you care about then maybe hold off on the 3DS for now and get a DSi or lite on auction.
