Topic: Thinking about getting a 3DS

I have been thinking about getting a 3DS recently but can't decide if I should save some cash and get the DS lite. I used to play on the gameboy color as a youngster and with the release of pokemon X and Y I am feeling like I want to relive those old times. I was just going to get an old gameboy advanced and play fire red and crystal but then I thought I'd get a newer system and go for the DS and play fire red and soul silver. And finally I thought maybe I'll splurge and get the newest system. Is the 3DS worth it?

As a fan of the older systems, the 3DS upgrade will wrap you in a warm familiar embrace.

Haha, but seriously it's a really friendly system, a worthy entry in the Nintendo family.

that's for you to decide, especially since I don't know your gaming preferences. However, 3DS is rapidly becoming the most universally liked, currently relevant gaming system and certainly has more games than I can keep up with.

I'll also say that parts of the newest Pokemon games are clearly there for fans of the original games, so there's that.

You could get the 2DS, it's cheaper.
But yeah, DS games can play on the 2DS/3DS.
There are many more great games on the system besides Pokemon!
Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, Animal Crossing, Shin Megami Tensei, and Kid Icarus to name a few.

Edit: Also they are making a special edition Zelda and Luigi 3DS XLs, they comes out in November.

If you can afford it I'll say go for the 3DS XL the best version of the best console of the moment

At the absolute minimum, I say get a 2DS. It will play all the DS games and 3DS games. I think the XL is the best(big screens, 3D, etc.).

You'll be able to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear etc. older portable games that you can buy off the eShop.

This hasn't been mentioned but the newer systems benefit hugely from the extraordinary StreetPass system which for me is a huge plus to the console. You can get help for your games or even play free games that are part of the system as well. It is worth the extra to me for this (although my system only cost me £90 brand new)

the 3DS is a great choice! I understand wanting to play GBA games(I want too) but the 3DS has MANY amazing games and VC is also incredible for classic gaming fans, it's neat to play old games anywhere without needing a game card(since VC titles take a very small space of the SD card it's neat) and like @Obtuse said the streetpass is great system for those who go out with their handhelds!

It really depends on which system you want and which/how many games on it you'd want to play. I personally haven't seen too many 3DS games that I'd want to play, which makes the price of a new system a bit hard to swallow. If anything, maybe wait until late november when the black friday bundles/prices are announced.

oldgameboy

Hmmm....I think I will wait and see what happens on black Friday. Thanks for the input and info

I think you should totally get one. All 3 versions are affordable and there's fantastic games on the system, both from Nintendo as well as third parties.

I am thinking of selling my 3DS and upgrading to a 3DS XL, If I sell it to GameStop I won't get that much but it is kinda beat up because I dropped it on a set of stone stairs once so I don't know if I could sell it to anyone for a decent price. Anyone have any suggestions?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Alright so what is the difference between a DS lite and 3ds besides one having 3d capabilities. I like being able to play GBA gameson the ds lite

They're entirely different machines. The leap in power is enormous. It's like going from the N64 to the Gamecube or Wii.

more like going from a slightly watered down N64(still with great games, only weaker) to a full powered Gamecube or Wii

there's also the fact 3DS is 3D and has motion controls and wireless feature for games even when you're not playing(heck even when you're not with the game in you console )but I thought a little and reached the conclusion that Images are better to explain the biggest(and most noticeable) Difference from DS to 3DS

Id search around on ebay to see if any are going for similar conditions and if so for how much before accepting gamestops offer.

Another reason to love the 3DS is the eShop. I really enjoy downloading the games onto my system directly. It allows me to keep multiple games going without switching cartridges, and it reduces clutter in my house.

I play this system so much, I haven't played my Wii in months, and still haven't purchased a Wii U because I am unsure of how much time I'll be able to allocate toward it.

I got a Wii u back in april and enjoyed it so much that I decided to get a 3ds. I always liked handhelds, but missed the ds generation. I've been very, very pleased with it. Still love the Wii u, but it's just more convenient to play the 3ds. As mentioned there are a ton of games and the eShop has tons of stuff too
