Topic: smash bros system link

alright guys on ssb for 3ds will we be able to play multiplayer through system link with just one copy of the game?
the reson i ask is id prefer to get the wii u version for local multiplayer but would also like to play my friends with 3ds every now and again, will i need my own copy of the game to do so?

I don't think you needed to create a whole new thread to discuss this but I'll answer your question anyway probbly gona be multicart for the multiplayer unless they offer a mode that restricts number of chracters and stages.

No idea yet, nothing about that has been confirmed yet as far as I know. I would assume so if it follows the Download Play trends of Mario Kart 7 and Luigi's Mansion 2, but maybe they'll be limited to a few characters and modes they can play. I could be completely wrong though, this is just speculation.

I doubt you'll only be able to use one card fully. Even Mario Kart 7 restricted the amount of stuff you can do with only one card.

Download play would be AWESOME! ...I'm a big fan of Download Play, you see.
I'm surprised so few games for 3DS have used it; especially since Download Play works so much better than it did with the DS!

I hope it has full feature download play. All of my siblings own a 3DS (and there are 4 of us), so download play is a huge plus for me.

Slightly off-topic, but... correct me if I'm wrong: you can challenge all the tracks with Download Play in Mario Kart 7, correct? I only used Download Play once, but I don't remember exactly... I'm pretty sure we played Rainbow Road, though.

^Mushroom Cups only for mariokart 7, though that was still generous IMO. 3-4 battle maps were offered as well.

Download play in MK7 limits the cartless players to shy guy and doesn't allow all the battle stages(I think).

I think it has more to do with the data required to play the game, rather than sales. It's very unlikely they would limit characterss on a download play version of SSB., but stages and maybe items. Choosing what character you play as is alot more important than the stage or items, if you ask me.

So ya, there's no guarantee that download play will happen. I'm pretty sure they confirmed some sort of connectivity, but not multiplayer between the Wii U and 3DS versions.

You can play on all tracks in MK7 Download play.

I'm pretty certain the only limitation is that whoever's downloading can only play as Shy Guy... because I know we played Rainbow Road (because the guy I was playing with didn't have the game, so he wanted to see what Rainbow Road was like)... I guess I'll find out for sure when my sister's 3DS gets here!

I play MK7 download play every time I see my cousin, so I know you can play all the tracks, but the download player(s) is restricted to Shy Guy. It might depend on what tracks you've unlocked in single player. I'm not entirely sure about battle stages if that is true(unlocks). The only battle stages I played and had to choose from, were 4 old and 4 new.

I don't play battle all that often.

By that logic they should just require each player of the Wii U version own a copy.

Doesn't Mario Party IT give you full multiplayer via download play?

@Mizore I know Mario Party DS did; I wouldn't expect the 3DS version to be a step down in that regard.

Anyways yeah it's hard to tell unless Sakurai tells us himself. But I think it won't support download play, didn't he say that the 3DS version would involve a different experience or something? (like...character customization or whatever...)

its hard to say because no one knows yet. it would be nice if they offered a lite version of download play with limited characters/stages but was quick to download, and a full version the gives you every option but takes longer to download.
