I am on my fourth New 3DS now (metallic black). The last three ended up being defective (not reading game cards, freezing, black screen of death) within a few days. The guy at the store said no one has had to return their N3DS. I am aware of my statutory rights/warranty coverage luckily but it makes me think - was there some kind of manufacturing defect pattern going on or did I just get really unlucky? What do you guys think? Anybody else experience this?
I'm gonna say you got unlucky.like black cat crossing your path as your walk underneath a ladder bad luck. Nintendo is known for high quality consoles. That said, no company is immune from a few bad ones in the bunch.

I've never had a nintendo bit of hardware stop working. When you look at the studies on these sorts of things, they generally come way ahead of the competition. Sound like it must be something to do with you. Do you live in Fukushima or something?

No, I don't live in Fukushima. I treated them pretty well especially the 3rd one, I do not believe it was a fault on my end. I'm feeling like I just got really unlucky. No hate on Nintendo, I love their products and games. Simply can't compare.
Wow you must be unlucky for sure! Got two Wiis, Wii U, two Dsi Xls, two DS lites, one 3DS XL. Had normal 3DS, N64 and SNES in the past - played the s**t out of all of them and not one problem at all ever.
Have a 3DS XL and Wii

Not to be patronizing, but did you charge it before returning it? You need to buy a charger with the system if your territory doesn't have it bundled in.

Yah I picked up a charger with it
And you do know you have to plug the charger into a wall outlet and the 3DS? Sorry, couldn't resist
Yeah, you have been pretty unlucky! Thank god my imported n3DS XL from New Zealand doesn't have any issues. Was a risk I took, but sending it back from Europe will both be expensive and a long wait....
