Just got this game yesterday. Notable accomplishments so far include catching a Modest Misdreavus, a Munchlax with Leftovers and a Happiny from a Bonsly SOS.
My son is playing Pokemon Sun. I bought him a Z ring for it.
How do I set it up to work with the game. There doesn't seem to be much to the instructions other than turn it on 3ds mode and have sound on in stereo.
Does it just automatically work with the sounds? My understanding is it lets him do the Z attacks once per battle and it vibrates and lights up and makes sounds to sync up with the game when you use the attacks. I am having trouble finding info about this on the net.....
@roy130390 thanks. Very helpful. I haven't played the game and I was under the impression it gave in game benefits like an amiibo. I guess it just syncs up with the sounds of the game to enhance the experience. I thought it had to pair up somehow. I guess that explains why in another video a woman was demonstrating it with a tablet, just play a video of using the attack in game and it will work too
What do you have to do in the game to get those z ring attacks? My son doesn't have that option in his battles
@blaisedinsd No problem, glad to help. The Z moves aren't available since the beginning, but they give you the option quite early in the game. Just progress a little in the story and remember to equip the item on the proper pokemon (if it's a fire Z move give it to a pokemon with a fire move for example).
@Tsurii Munchlax didn't seem THAT rare when I was searching route 1's secret area (henceforth known as the Gen IV baby corner), I met it a couple of times while searching for a Bonsly. The first Bonsly I met happened to summon a Happiny which I didn't see normally at all, so I found that to be more special.
...That said, there's actually a surprising spread of baby pokemon early on, including Pichu. Before it seemed these were designed to force people to breed to complete their dexes, but that no longer seems to be the case.
Yup, it's good that they use the babies in the wild, it gives them a purpose as early pokemon. They have been playing with this since gen 4.
... Specially since they don't seem to be interested in getting rid of the dumb idea of incense. Like seriously, it would've been so much better just retconning the babies in without the incense thing.
Had the strangest luck this morning, almost like an inverse desire sensor... the minute I started hunting for a particular 'mon it came with surprisingly little trouble. First I find a Crabrawler in a pile of berries, then find a Mankey shortly afterwards. Then as a surprise, I accidentally find myself beset by an Adamant Rufflet with Sheer Force.
Just a personal opinion/rant... I am somewhat disappointed in this gen's Pokemon. Specifically, I think there were a lot of good designs that were slightly ruined by their evolutions, like IMO Crabominable, Kommo-o, Shiinotic, Toxapex, etc., to name some. However I hadn't seen Golisopod before, and that has an awesome design. I was so surprised and stoked when I evolved it — it's probably my favorite Gen 7 Pokemon. But then you have Pokémon that I think should have evolutions, like Komala... Was disappointing to see it didn't evolve.
The Alolan Forms also bother me... They had so many Kanto Pokemon to choose from, yet they used so little... Those old rumors of Alakazam, Arcanine, Parasect could have been great if they were real. I think they should have also been more bold with the designs too. Most of them are simply an additional type, like Diglett or Rattata. I would have liked more drastic changes in type like we saw with Ninetales. Not simply making 3 different Evo lines all Dark type...
And to top it all off, it seems a lot of Pokemon I like just don't have good stats. I'm not even a competitive battler and I can see this, and it disappoints me that new Pokemon I love, like Decidueye, have mediocre Speed stats and such. I wanted to use it on my Pokemon League team, but I had better options available once I got there. Makes me feel like I picked the wrong starter.
Speaking of baby pokemon, if I were to catch one with a luxury ball, evolve it, breed it, passing on the ball through the mother, would any offspring benefit from the increased friendship gain?
Would the same apply for the one friend ball you get as well?

It seems like Game Freak used Alola Forms to compensate for types that didn't get a lot of new Pokemon and didn't really put a lot of real creativity into the concepts. The only ones you could really say are creative are the two Ice lines, and even then that's because there's not a lot of Pokemon that could logically gain Ice type. Most of the other Alola forms seem to be treated like mulligans, they're using them to give types to Pokemon that really should've had them in the first place or needed more type variety.
What's more disappointing about Alola Forms though, is that the only Pokemon that got them were 1st gen Pokemon and they used the new forms as another form of Kanto pandering. There's much, much more potential here than just playing favorites with Kanto yet again.
@meleebrawler
I had the exact opposite situation for the last couple of days. I was trying to caught a Mimikyu and for two days I didn't found a single one. When I was about to exit the Megamarket.... boom. There it was.}
@Bolt_Strike I agree that it feels like compensation and not much creativity. And yes as Meowpheel said I noticed that they could have tried to add Dark types to Gen I where they were non existent but it feels repetitive to me.
My biggest beef with them isn't even the Kanto Pokemon (I love Kanto Pokemon), simply that they had so many more Pokemon to work with even in that Gen. If they revisit regional forms in the future they need to give other Gens deserved attention but I would also appreciate a few more revamps from Kanto as I just feel there's still a lot of potential.
All that being said, I love the new Muk and Ninetales. New Sandslash is also cool, but shouldn't it be renamed? Snowslash maybe?
