Remember when you used to get over several million hours worth of ban time in X/Y due to no reason.

Good Times.

So, when I want the pokemon to call an ally, it only tries every 15 turns, and it works one out of every 5 tries...

But when I want to catch the pokemon, it's 90% more common and works without fail.

Funny how that works.

@Meowpheel Are you using the adrenaline orb?

Pokemon are more likely to call for help the lower HP they are as well. If one is full it simply won't call (or it will but its like 1/10 odds rather than 1/1.5 with adrenaline orb + red HP.)

Yeah I'm doing everything correctly, it's just the desire imp playing tricks.

When I just want to register the pokemon in the Pokédex, it calls for help constantly.... When I set it up for it... Help never comes.

When I was completing the dex (finished today) literally every single pokemon I was searching for took atleast 10 encounters before they even showed up..

Pancham appears near po-town with a 10% encounter rate.

23 encounters later

But surely I'll encounter at least 5 of the pokemon with a 5% encounter rate and I already own.

I swear its like these games read your mind and then mess with you..

Anyway, after I got the shiny charm I went shiny hunting for a dewpider via SOS method.... it sucks. I didn't get it after 100 encounters which to be fair, is my usual dexnav chain.. but the problem is it could've been HA, which is a big no no on dewpider, and they drained my PP so fast. You can spam leppas or max exilirs, but meh I got very bored and felt rushed as I couldn't leave to battle or trade with friends during the "chain"..

Chaining for shinies also doesn't exist. Simply put, its a 1/512 chance on each pokemon called being shiny. I've watched streams go for 21 hours with a chain of 1040, so nah no thank you, I'll just breed masuda method with a bad IV jap. ditto, but at least I can 100% control the ability and the nature of the shiny and then just bottle cap its stats to be usable. Gunna have to either way, and but in the old days I usually just cloned the shiny and modified the clone's stats so this is at least a legit way of doing it.

What demotivates me more is power trick is an egg move and that's actually a pretty cool move on araquanid.. sadly its only passable from shuckle, which is pokebank.. meh, guess I'll rebreed for another nature or something later and then put the move on it then and shiny hunt.

I might go for a shiny wimpod tho, golisopod looks cooler the more I see him in-game. Shiny primarina is also tempting after seeing how gorgeous it is on the screen after seeing one in a royal.

@Araquanid "I swear its like these games read your mind and then mess with you.."

I get that loads of times whenever I play Dr. Mario Miracle Cure. It's like the game knows exactly what I'm planning, and often sends a pill right in the very spot I needed to fill to get rid of a long virus chain. It's happened so often that it's downright scary. I'm thinking I should do this, this, and this, and as if on cue, I am thwarted by the game. One after another it sends pills in the very same spots I needed to use.

I'm starting the third island and my pokemon are already on their mid 30's, am I overleveled? Or is that just fine?

I heard the game spiked a bit in that island.

@Meowpheel Thats reasonable yea. You should be fine until [insert major plot points here] so just fight trainers and stuff and you should be alright.

Stock up on healing items.

Just hatched a shiny grubbin! Yea masuda method is way easier and more satisfying than SOS.

@Meowpheel 4th island spike. You wanna be 40ish by the time you leave island 3. I was high 30s and the last island walked right over me.

So how do I connect with my brother? We both bought Pokemon Sun and Moon, and while he'll be visiting in person over Christmas, I was keen on trading earlier.

If I do have to wait until I can battle/trade locally, would I then at least be able to register him as a VIP?

@edhe You still can.

You have to go in festival plaza, and then press the wi-fi button in the bottom right of your screen to connect to the internet.

Once you're both connected, if you both have your 3DS's added, you just press link battle / link trade in the respective buttons, and it'll show his name with "in friend's list" next to it in the guest list.

Registering VIP simply makes it easier to identify people you often play with rather than them mixed with all the random guest and relying on "in friend's list" to find them offline.

Its honestly the same as x/y except new places to look and you can't be online while breeding.

@Araquanid

Will the friends list appear if and when he comes online, because I've got no way of verifying it at the moment. As it stands, I have a guest list, and a VIP list, but no friend list per se.

I was wondering why I wasn't getting any new people in my plaza though. Probably because I hadn't connected in a while.

Thanks for the help.

@edhe Yea, he'll just show up in the guest list when you're both online. Usually players on your friends list appear at the top of your guest list so it shouldn't be too hard to find him.

Phew, just got past the Totem Lurantis I've been hearing horror stories about. I'll definitely say I can see why everyone hates it so much, I was not expecting any of what happened on the first turn with it.

Must say that I was expecting a bit worse though.

I didn't find it to be particularly hard.

The only reason my Chargabug didn't finish it off quickly was because it spent every single turn healing up

Eventually I got tired of it and sent Pelliper to finish the job. Drizzle messed up with its plans.

I'm still surprised at my Misdreavus tanking the Solar Blade hit and cancelling the speed boost with Thunder Wave. Would've beaten it flawless if not for Trumbeak and Supersonic being stupid, that move has 55 accuracy; why does it hit so often?!

Ban over just under 24 hours i believe. Doing some research it looks like there's apparently a hack involving the trade function. I understand why they do this but for whatever reason if you lose connection or the other person does it bans both parties which i don't agree with hopefully they can figure this out.

In other news got to the Exeggutor Island caught the forced encounter Exeggutor and up to 43 percent on the total Pokedex count. As for the difficulty i've had exp share on but for the most part i've been powering through with my Snorlax level 54 with Brick Break,Hold Back,Body Slam and Rock Tomb. Mimikyu was a pain brought down Haunter kept casting Hypnosis luckily my Snorlax is max affection so it shakes it off pretty quickly or it doesn't work at all on Snorlax. Will try Pokemon Sun without the exp boost and work on affection for boosted exp and probably do lots of trades for boosted exp.

@canucksfan989 hmm

Well back in X/Y there was a method to clone pokemon before powersaves. It involved two 3DS's where if you time it just right, you can disconnect one of them and the pokemon will trade over, the but other 3DS won't register that it traded and pretend like the trade never happened.

So maybe they're trying to delay how much people can do this with bans this strict. I still find it lame that its so long since I've had times where me and friends messed around showing each other pokemon until one of us D/C'd.

This game is pretty difficult if you play it "right" (i.e. using only new Pokemon, having your battle style on "set" mode because you're not a wuss, and opting not to grind until you're a ridiculous 10 levels above trainer Pokemon. Five is perfectly acceptable though)

Lurantis was a nightmare. That speed boost plus its held item meant that it outsped everything that I had while hitting incredibly hard (mind you, at this point in the game most of your Pokemon haven't evolved yet) that first turn, and then castform comes out to give it a good ol' sunny day and keep the one turn Solar Blade going. The only way I can see anyone beating this easily is if they did some obsessive grinding, or knew exactly what the battle entailed before doing it.
