I was hoping for a discount if all three were bought. I wanted them all, but total it will come to over $40CAD...
have to save up I guess.

According to Serebii, the surfing pikachu minigame is now open to any pikachu in Yellow. No need for surf, so that's nice.

Also, as predicted, Jynx has been updated (though only in Yellow). However instead of modifying the sprite they just changed the color black to purple on her face and hands. Which means Jynx is the Pokemon with the most colors in the game.

More protips:
Psychic is seriously OP in gen 1 so make sure you catch a Caterpie early on. It'll be a lot easier to level up than a Metapod and once you evolve it into a Butterfree it'll learn Confusion. Particularly handy against Team Rocket who love to use poison types (Koffing, Grimer, Ekans, Zubat)

There are other ways to get Psychic moves but this is the easiest, earliest and most reliable.

I seem to recall that there's a very slim chance of running into Butterfree in Viridian Forest? Granted, that's not as reliable as just catching a Caterpie, but I suppose the option is there.

I don't think you can catch butterfree in the wild in these games.

According to Serebii, in viridian forest...

In red you can find:

-common: weedle, kakuna.
-very rare: caterpie, metapod, Pikachu.

In blue:

-common: caterpie, metapod.
-very rare: weedle, kakuna, Pikachu.

In Yellow:
-common: caterpie.
-uncommon: pidgey, metapod.
-super rare: pidgeotto.

I started playing Yellow and I decided to do a Nuzlocke to have a little variation since it hasn't been long since I was 100%ing Red and Blue. So far my team is Pikachu (Pallet Town), Pidgey (Route 1), Mankey (Route 22), Nidoran F (Route 2) and Metapod (Viridian Forest). Seems like Brock won't be a problem.

Got Yellow and having a blast so far! I only have one question:

Is the only way to get Mew through the glitch? I could've sworn that I read somewhere that there would be another way to get it....

They can offer it through events. But remember you don't really need Mew to complete the pokedex.

Japan got codes to somehow aquire Mew with their purchase. Everywhere else? Glitch away. If they end up doing an event anyway, then you get two!

Alright, thanks for the help!

Did they really update more than just the cable link thing? Because someone was saying earlier that they smoothed out some of the fast flashes during battles or evolutions, and I'm thinking no unless there's proof because it looks the same to me. I can't find anything on it in general anymore.

Some attacks were edited to be less flickery and stuff. Because epilepsy.

Also, there's the Jynx sprite in yellow thing I mentioned earlier.

Oh I didn't know the Jynx thing, I must have missed it but I found an article about it.

I've been using Confusion with Butterfree and I thought it looked different somehow, it flashes a lot slower. Nbd but I did notice.

This game is harassing me. I went through all of Mt Moon with basically no wild encounters, then I go through the ladder behind the Hiker trainer, and it kicks in times 10, Zubats every 2-3 steps. Lol Then after an hour of that and not finding a Clefairy and I'm giving up, I find 2 in a row. Got onnnneeeeee.

@Dankykong: That happened to me in Viridian Forest, I went through the whole forest up to the last 5 steps without any encounters. Then, BAM! Wild Pokemon every step.

@BurningSonic: Actually the same thing happened to me sorta, but I stuck around trying to find a Caterpie, but I took a few laps in the first area before the trainer battles, before I got anything to even pop up. I still made it through the entire thing with barely any battles.

So i just started playing Pokémon yellow. The game aged a little bit worse than I imagined.

It's a real shame meowth can't be found in Yellow, it's one of my favorite gen 1 Pokemon. Fortunately, I can get one in blue, and it's one of the better looking sprites there, too. In Yellow it got a bit ugly.

It's also nice that pay day is a TM that many Pokemon can learn. The extra money, if little, is welcome.

I don't see the potential everyone else sees in Yellow. The story seems slightly less serious, you can't evolve Pikachu which is a waste of a Pokemon if you can't make it actually evolve and become strong like your others, which pretty much makes Pikachu only useful as canon-fodder later in the game when trainers start pulling out the big guns, and the champion battle isn't as challenging as it is in Red and Blue since he uses Eeveelutions in Yellow instead of a starter.

Picking Yellow over Red and Blue is like picking Birthright over Conquest, lol.

Well, the friendship system with pikachu and added color are two big factors. There's also the fact that the game gives you all three starters. Others simply like Pikachu.

Also, Gary's Eevee evolves depending on your performance during your first two battles, which is a nice idea. His jolteon can be a good contender if you're unprepared. And most people will be unprepared (many like using the Pokemon given to you by the game, which includes nothing good [and several Pokemon that are weak] agaisnt electric Pokemon)

Level 19 Graveler with a trainer just outside Rock Tunnel and Lavender Town lol How did he get it? Geodude evolves at Lv 25.

@Meowpheel: Thanks for the clarification; it's been some time since I've played these! I thought I recalled some kid finding a Butterfree in Blue, but it could be the game had been hacked.
