Hi, so I recently watched the new nintendo direct was pleasantly surprised to find that a limited edition mm3d new 3ds xl is being released but I would like to know if it will be able in au/nz so if anyone has a website link to a pre-order from a au/nz website please post it . Also, I currently own a 3ds xl which I have owned for a couple of years and if I bought this new 3ds by trading in my old 3ds to get a discount, I can just redownload all the digital games I had bought with my nintendo network Id right? Cheers

Hi! First off, I think you could've just asked the questions in an existing New 3DS thread, but to answer your questions:

  • There hasn't been any Majora's Mask Special Edtion New 3DS announcements regarding regions other that North America, Europe and Japan
  • You will not be able to download any titles with just the Nintendo Network ID. You will have to do a full System Transfer, with which the store will help you no doubt. (Here's what I'm talking about: http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_... )

Cheers to you too! I hope it helped.

To clarify on the System Transfer..
All of your purchases are tied to the machine they were bought on. Nintendo doesn't have a unified account system as of yet, which sucks! The Network ID is just for social functions at the moment.

Aus/NZ use PAL region locking, the same as Europe. The MM consoles aren't up for sale in the UK yet, expected tomorrow. I would suggest checking local websites tomorrow. If all else fails, you would be able to import an EU MMNDS XL and it will work exactly like any console purchased in your country since it's the same region locking. Just make sure to set the console to the correct region.

And trade-in is not recommended if you want to do a transfer unless you have excellent customer service in the shop where you buy, since you need both consoles to perform a system transfer.

Ok awesome thanks for the replies but I have another question. The sd card on my old 3ds is 16GB and I have nearly used all the storage space, and I read that the new 3ds comes with a 4gb micro sd, so does that mean I have to set up the new 3ds and then go out and buy a 16gb micro sd card and then do the system transfer to make sure I don't run out of space?

Yes, you will need to buy a new microSD card.

You will need to buy the Monster Hunter 3DS upfront without the trade in credit. Keep the receipt though, and when you get your new 3DS and perform the transfer, take your old one in for the $100 refund. Make sure to communicate this with the staff ahead of time to avoid any nasty surprises.

Hello everyone, I have a question. I currently have a 32GB SD card on my 3DS. I remember reading about the 3DS needing a certain type of SD card past the 32GB mark. So for 64GB SD cards and above, the 3DS required something like SDHC, SDXC, or something like that. I didn't quite understand it. I want to get a N3DSXL, but I want to buy a 64GB micro SD card first. Would I need a certain type of mSD card like the 3DS? And can anyone give me an example? I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

The 3DS will only read a card that is formatted as FAT32. It's technically not a size limit that the 3DS has, but a format restriction. SDHC, SDXC, all of that will work as long as it is formatted correctly. Here is a handy guide on how to reformat a card yourself. I've done it myself and yes, it works.

More important would be the brand and quality of the card. Buy a brand that you trust (all of my cards are Sandisk) and make sure to read user reviews.

Think your local Gamestop is actually a front for Shadydeals Inc. Or the customer service rep is a goon.

Not to hijack the topic, but:
My last system transfer was back on launchday of the 3DS XL. For anyone with a fresh memory:
Im using a 32GB Card on my current 3DS XL. Do i need an equally big one on the N3DS ? I cant quite remember if the system just transfered the license data so i can just swap the card, or if the content from the card is transfered too.

Einherjar

CaviarMeths

@Einherjar It just transfers license and user stuff. Last time I transferred (couple months ago for the Persona Q 3DS XL), I just backed up all my data to my PC to be safe, then performed the system transfer with the stock 4GB card that came with the new 3DS. After the transfer, I put my SD with all my game data into the new 3DS and it read just fine. Even kept my icon layout and theme.

Only difference is going from SD to microSD, so yes, you'll need a new microSD card, but you'll be able to just copy all the files from your old to the new by using a PC for backup. Drag everything from the old card to your desktop, take it out, put in new card, drag everything onto new card and you're set.

Oh, right...totally forgot that they switched formats.
Thanks guys ! Well, that means that i have to get a new card anyways At least they are dirt cheap.

For anyone who wants to know, I've done a system transfer from my original Nintendo 3DS to a New Nintendo 3DS. I had a 16GB SD card in the original (which I bought recently, dammit) and kept the 4GB microSD in the new one. I had less than 4GB of data on the old SD card.

Anyway, I ran the system transfer, it's all wireless and it worked a lot better than I expected It will ask you if you want to do a system transfer almost as soon as you turn on your new 3ds so it's all pretty convenient!

And it transfers EVERTHING, even DSi games which it will copy over to the SD card and then copy back to the system memory for you Nothing is lost

Hi guys, i need you to clarify something for me!
I've bought a New Nin. 3DS Ambas. Edition and it's on his way (it will arrive tomorrow i think...)

I know that i need to do a system transfer, but my SD card in my old 2DS it's a 32 GB one and, as you know, the new 3DS come equipped with only a 4 GB micro sd....

I don't have time/money to buy a new micro SD (expecially because big ones are still pricey) what can i do??

If i delete content in my old SD card till it's small enough to fit in the 4 GB micro SD i will lose the license of the games that i deleted when i do the system transfer??

I can't simply transfer the licenses and then re-download the games when i want??

I don't know what to do...

Felioth

DefHalan

You will not lose any license and you can just re-download, but there might be an easier way someone else knows. I haven't dealt with the New 3DS yet, just upgrading from the original to the normal XL

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Is it the same with the New 3DS XL?

Thank you for your answer

So, you are suggesting to do what i said?

Example: if i have 15 GB of games, i delete some to make them became 4GB total and i do the system transfer??

Can you confirm that i will not lose the license to play the deleted games and that it will not remain tied to my old system??
Because i plan to sell it...
