I actually kinda think a Super Mario game taking place in dreams is a cool idea. Dunno how Nintendo would be able to effectively pull it off, but I'm pretty sure they could.

Maybe I'm being slightly pessimistic, but in my opinion, the Mario series can get no better than Super Mario Galaxy. That game (and probably Galaxy 2, haven't played it yet) is pure, Nintendo perfection. Whatever happens next for Mario just won't be as great as Galaxy. If Nintendo proves me wrong, fantastic. I want nothing more than that. But, unless Nintendo pulls out all the shots in the next game, I believe that Galaxy is the apex of the Super Mario series.
I'm pretty sure the next 3D Mario title would logically be either Luigi's Mansion 3D or Super Mario Sunshine 3D. That's my ten cents thrown in the fountain.
Or perhaps it'll be a retro sequel to Super MariPoST 64! I'd enjoy that a lot!

Actually, thats a really good idea, although i doubt nintendo would swing for that; considering they already made Mario & Luigi: partners in time. but i was thinking a sequel to sunshine, but get this. It would be GOOD. lol, theyd probably make a game where the shine sprites get sent to space. just because bowser thought it would be a good idea. :/ i wouldnt be surprised.

I'd rather just see another 3D Mario with maybe some sort of overworld map like in Galaxy 2 or SMB3 etc to get me to the levels quickly. Nothing too fancy but you'd add some interesting new powerups which change things up a bit. I mean, what more can you do? The goal has always been to get to the end and with Galaxy they allowed themselves to be completely unbound by "normal" physics and include any sort of level type they want.
The name itself? Doesn't really matter that much.

I think they should do something radically different....something where Mario Teaches Typing...or maybe some cool change-of-gameplay mechanics scenario where it turns out Mario's Missing.

I agree with you. It would really be nice to see a Mario game on the Nintendo 3DS with an overworld map as in Super Mario Galaxy 2. It would also be nice if the 3DS Mario Platformer took place in something like the supposed Ice Age or a so called Prehistoric Dinosaur era of time.
@Swerd_Murd, I've got to admit that I am also feeling nostalgic for another "Mario Typing Adventure". However, a Mario Party 3DS game wouldn't be to bad either.
Nope, Galaxy was the apex of the series. As much as I've enjoyed Galaxy 2, it never quite reaches the heights of its predecessor.
Anyhow, the one outcome capable of gravely disappointing me would be another New Super Mario Bros iteration on the 3DS. The original DS game was rather lackluster for Mario, and even though the Wii title was fantastic, that depended on the local multiplayer, which can't play a central role on a 3DS release.

@ abgar, I agree we need a good console quality Mario Party game on the 3DS although I'm already guessing that a MiiParty game will be unveiled at the E3 this year for the 3DS.
I liked Super Mario Sunshine also and it would be nice to see that on the 3DS.
