I preferred bikes to karts in MKW but with the game at this stage in development, we're not getting them but other Mario karts that came before MKW were awesome so they're not needed but it would still be awesome if they were in.
No. I hope bikes never come back, unless they balance things out. Because Funky Kong+Bike combo ruined the game when you're playing online and freaking 5 or 6 people race as him. There goes my hard earned VR points.
It is hard to avoid making one best kart. At least in MKDS the characters could all use each kart, so you had a variety of faces, even if they were all riding in Egg 1. They need to bring back DD's character specials so that karts aren't all-important. Of course, the new system of kart parts may be enough to balance it out.
Goomba can swing a baseball bat. That requires more arm strength (arm presence?) than driving. Personally, I like to see Mario Baseball as proof that Goomba has telekinetic abilities he simply chooses not to use against Mario for his own personal reasons.
Anyway, can anyone tell me exactly how the game controls? I read in Destructoid's preview that you can do MKWii style tricks with the R button after jumping off a ramp, and in MKDS, iirc, the R buton was used for drifting and L for items. But I also read somewhere, don't remember exactly where, maybe here(?) that tricks are deployed using the d-pad. I'm kinda worried that there either (a) won't be a manual drift mechanic or (b) it will be handled like MKDS's was, by pounding on left/right sides of the d-pad. I want it to be like Double Dash's personally, but MKWii's would be fine too. I just hated how MKDS handled.
The R button is used for jumping, so it seems that it will be used for both drifting and tricks.

Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
What do you mean, like Double Dash's drift? It has been a long time since I played Double Dash or MKDS unfortunately, but I thought mini-boost worked the same way in MK64, MKDS, and MKDD: pressing the opposite direction of the turn three times while drifting with R. MKW is the only one I remember to do it different, where it just boosts automatically.

You drift with R then press left right 3 times then let go of R.

Oh, really? It's been a while since I played either of them either, but I guess I just thought it was easier/more comfortable to do it with the analogue stick as opposed to the d-pad, combined with the fact that I've become so adjusted to the MKWii control scheme that I've forgotten how older games controlled, haha. Sorry about that.
But maybe it's just me, but I'm kind of concerned about R being used both for tricks and drifting, as I would often start driftinng right before going off a ramp in MKWii, so I could angle myself for a tight pass, and then I would perform the trick. But who knows. Maybe it will come naturally when I actually get my hands on the game.
