Interesting. It's a 'build your own railroad model set' app on the 3DS. Lay down the lines and the backdrops and ride a train through your creations. Other than the cities, the environments look pretty sparse though, but I'm only basing it on the trailer. I wonder if there's any limit as to how long a line can be and how many props you can stick on the map.

I wish the Vita had more simulation/strategy games like these. That's one thing the 3DS has an advantage over. There's already a bunch on the 3(DS) library (like A-Train, 2 SimCities, Dawn of Discovery, Civ Revolution, etc). The Vita is getting Civ Rev 2 next week though, which is awesome, and a PSM title has a sim (you can't buy it anymore), but it still pales in comparison to Nintendo's handhelds.

A-Train in particular is the most indepth simulation I've seen on a handheld/console. The depth and scope of the game rivals those on the PC, where all the great sims come from. The only bad thing is that it doesn't have a sandbox mode, which is pretty standard in a PC sim. I love sandbox modes, and absence in A-Train is pretty disheartening.

With A-Train, I'm in it for the business management aspect, so the lack of sandbox doesn't trouble me as much. I can definitely see how you'd miss it if you're into things like Civ though.

Not sure if just playing with trains in a game appeals to me, though. I love A-Train, and Japanese Rail Sim scratches the train driving itch, but I don't think I love trains enough for this.

If it was airplanes though, I'd probably be sold.

@World I'm not sure what business management has to do with sandbox/free play modes. I don't like scenarios in simulation games and don't play them. I'd rather play at my own pace with no goals or restrictions, and Io can do what I want as long as I want. If A-Train had this option, I'd be playing it a lot more. I'm currently playing Transport Giant in sandbox mode and playing it only makes me wish that A-Train had it too. I have set up a long string of railroads connecting 5 cities, and I have some industries set up.

@Freelance: Oh, I just meant I personally like having those financial goals to meet so I didn't miss the lack of a city dev sandbox! It's definitely weird that it doesn't have it though, especially since it has a custom scenario mode? Like...why not just allow for endless scenarios or something?

Oh okay, now I know what you mean. I just hate having time restrictions on these type of games. If a game has a sandbox feature, and the majority of them do, then I'd be playing that and I won't touch campaign modes. A-Train's Custom scenario mode is really neat and stuff, and I thought I could actually use that feature as a sandbox mode (put no requirements and just start the game). Unfortunately, the industries have to be placed yourself. They're not added to the maps automatically, so that pretty much makes a true sandbox mode a no-go.

Hmm, It's by the same people who made Coaster Creator 3D, which was pretty good. This looks like it could get old fairly quickly, though. Like, the missions seem to consist of just stopping at certain points to pick up/drop off passengers/cargo. The editor will probably be pretty good, but I just can't imagine there being a whole lot of variety available. I'll keep my eye on it, though.

I like makin' games!
Future Pinball games!
Petit Computer games!!
and SmileBASIC games!
Waiting for Kirby Air Ride 2. One day, it will come. One day...

Lionel looks really cool. I wonder what Big John is going to charge for it. My guess is they might try and pass it off as a retail priced point. If the price is right I will probably get this.

Still playing 3DS but will have Switch soon for multiplayer with friends. I miss you guys! Adam, Joni, Gavin and the rest of the Blue Rogues from the Phantasy Star Zero Days.

Does anyone know how sharing creations works? Online friends sharing would be sweet! Even QR would be cool. Street pass will kill sharing

@Windy: I don`t think it`s out yet. Also, the article linked in this thread says it`s going to be $7.99, far below retail standards. It`d prolly be 9 something Canadian though after exchange rate.

@Freelance: well that's cool. I had it in !my head that if the game was 11.99 or less I would insta-buy. At 7.99 a train creation game will be mine. I hope sharing tracks is done with QR codes or online

@Windy: Did you actually read the article? It also says they can be shared with QR codes, so you're in luck.

Can you post impressions? I wanna know if you can have lots of trees and stuff to make your model railroad, and if there's any limit to the amount of props you can use. I may get it too.

Darnit, I thought it'd come out today. The official website did say "Early Dec" for the release date, and it's now past that.

Not that anyone cares, but the release date is now late Jan.

Okay it's coming tomorrow for a low price, and it will jump up at the end of Jan. Who's going to get it?

I got it. The system for placing track is a modified version of the one in Coaster Creator 3D. I think it works better for this than it did in Coaster Creator.

I really don't like the editor. I was hoping you could just lay the track down. But it's already laid down for you and you just bend in the turns. I gotta say the game is much more fun than I thought it would be. The story mode is pretty neat. After I beat it I will mess with the editor and try and make some cool environments to post QR codes for people to try.

I finished my first layout. Sadly you only have a limit of 100 objects so you can't really make really really cool stages with thousands of stuff in it. I can scan a QR code of the track and objects. I dunno if you need to scan in both to see my stage or just the track one, but I can't check 'cause nobody has made a layout yet. You can be the testers!

My track is best played in first person view 'cause I have some tunnels, but you can try out the other views.

@Barbiegurl777: yeah I rated it a 3. The game is a lot of fun. The graphics are ok. I think you will like the game BG. I'm enjoying the story mode much more than I thought I would. For some of the achievements you have to really get the trains moving at a fast speed. For 4.99 on the introductory offer its a good deal. It's no A-Train but has its own charm
