Libra Sponge is better since it will increase your damage, although you it doesn't give you an advantage because you have more health, since if I remember correctly, it's based on the percentage of damage dealt to you.

I remembered that shot range chart @Ruceyod had, and attempted to make that into a Lancer Staff.
I got shot range -3 and Ch. Shot +4 on this Cutter palm that also has pretty good melee.
