God come on guys...please stop spoiling characters and plot here till we actually get the game!!!!! :3

Funny how now play-asia has the special edition sold out. I don't get why many people seem to think that the overall experience is enjoyed if they buy both versions when the game itself doesn't sound like it requires both versions to enjoy the entire story.....

What spoilers?

Fire Emblem aren't necessarily alternate universes. They could just be different continents of the same world.

Akaneia (Shadow Dragon, Mystery of the Emblem)
Barensia (Gaiden)
Which then become Valm and Ylisse 2000 years later (Awakening)
Judgral (Genealogy of the Holy War, Thracia 776)
Elibe (Binding Blade, Blazing Sword)
Magvel (Sacred Stones)
Tellius (Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn)

So we know that Barensia/Valm and Akaneia/Ylisse are next to each other. The other four could be around too, especially Magvel and Judgral, which seem to be smaller island continents.

a bit off topic: I made a Fire Emblem Awakening quiz Feel free to take it http://www.quotev.com/quiz/7234006/Which-Fire-Emblem-Awakenin...

I am apparently Owain...

I think Tellius is in the same world as well given a man who claimed to be Ike's descendant showed up with the Ragnell. Plus, if Smash Bros counts for anything, both Robin and Lucina refer to Ike as the Radiant Hero, which implies Ike's own exploits are legends in that world.

On the flip side, Corrin's trailer referred to Marth, Lucina, Robin, and Ike as "Warriors of the Outrealms" which implies Fates takes place in a separate world where the legends of Marth and the other playable lords would not be known.

@Caryslan: I dunno. Take Awakening with a grain of salt. I mean, Big sister, Samurai chicks brother, first arc bad guy, super sexy villain chick all die but then comes back with no use other than to be married. I find it not Canon. I doubt Ike predecessor is Canon either, but just a "Hey look at these references."

That stuff has been known for a while. The big spoilers would be any story info.

@Socar: If you don't want to hear anything about the game, then don't go into threads dedicated to the game. It's not like people are dropping big plot twists without spoiler tags or something.

So, what are the overpowered units this time? Just out of curiosity.

Here's some footage from IGN for Fates, though not much of it is new if you followed some of the Treehouse broadcasts during E3.

So this is interesting. Someone just showed me this: the specific "localization" changes they make for certain parts of the sexual parts of dialog in Awakening:

Anyone else getting the sense that the whole concept of "localization" has slowly been twisted into just a means by which some people try and normalize certain political opinions (probably those of the person in charge of the localization team)? The removal of that line of dialogue, like with the boob slider in Xenoblade X, seems to be completely unnecessary. It was completely harmless and 99% of people would've had no problem with it.

I think it's more that the ESRB and EU equivalent are random and dumb so it forces the localization to be weird and paranoid sometimes. Likely that the publisher very specifically doesn't want an M rating for certain games.

Kinda like how blatantly a single scene is the only reason the last Ace Attorney game was M rated.

Maybe. But with all of this recent silliness from Nintendo, I'm left wondering: how on earth did they ever sell Conker's Bad Fur Day? It's bizarre that this is the same company. And given that I absolutely love things like Conker's, it's very depressing.

To be fair, everyone involved at Rare wanted Conker's to be M rated and Nintendo had less involvement (but also less interest in marketing it). IIRC, anyway.

I'm not a big fan of censorship of any type but people being profoundly and annoyingly butthurt about it has made me apathetic at best to their plight. Maybe if the line is informative or actually funny in context I will care (though to be fair, the EU line for that is just lame). I mostly just find the reversal funny. If the picture comparisons are what I think they mean, It's almost like both localization teams listened to different criticisms from different people for Awakening and thus became lighter/heavier on changes.

So you base your beliefs on how other people act towards that belief?

Good luck with that! You'll end up believing nothing and having the most successful crazy people dictate what happens.

Yep. Also, the localization company behind both FE:A and XCX's English translations, 8-4, is known for doing exactly this sort of thing.

"Localization" has become code for "censorship." Censorship to appease a loud minority of people who are determined to foist their political and moral viewpoints on everyone else. Unfortunately, unlike the people at XSEED, the higher up's in Nintendo's Western divisions don't seem to have any kind of moral backbone regarding the issue of unnecessary censorship.

That link reminded me of something: I LOVE that the censorship in the U.S. version made the picture of Tharja look a good deal more suggestive than the uncensored version was. The people making these decisions really are clueless.

Well my belief is that I only care about people who aren't consistently annoying to me so things to work out pretty well. :V

I think my post makes it abundantly clear I can have an opinion on this. I just find I don't feel it is worth any real portion of my time compared to many other things that screw with artistic expression in games far more than localized censorship does nowadays (at least in terms of Japanese to English localization). Particularly if people are unwilling to look at why something is changed and what it means in context.

Best way to put it, you're not wrong but you're not gonna get that level of pure artistic expression from nearly anything from a major gaming company, and even with some changes in localization, being a Nintendo game I suspect it's probably still closer than what the more reasonable people at a major Ubisoft or EA studio were doing before corporate garbage changed their game to appeal to some "wider audience" that would never be reached.

As opposed to the loud minority who cries foul every time something is censored?

This statement makes no sense at all. Why are you even using the word "moral" in this context?

I think some of this is unnecessary criticism. Did you actually plan to stare at Tharja, dress a 13-year-old in a bikini, and adjust your character's breast size?
