Topic: Are Nintendo 3DS download games now linked to my Nintendo ID?

Hi I have an original 3DS and a NEW 3DS XL. I thought I read recently with the Nintendo Switch that Nintendo has now linked your download games with your Nintendo ID. Does this mean I can now have the same downloaded 3DS games on both my Nintendo 3DS systems? Do I still need to do a system transfer? I don't really understand fully what this does, other than copy my Nintendo ID over. Please help.

Also why is/was this so complicated? I've given Nintendo a load of money by buying both systems (brand new). At least let me have the games I've bought on both systems at once! Moan, moan

Thanks for any help.

@Meowpheel Ok I think I understand that - so by toggling the id on and off between my 2 3DS's I can get the same download games on each 3DS?

I don't think that would quite work.

You'd need to perform system transfers each time, which are slow and restrictive.

Also it is not possible for an ID to go back from a n3DS to an original 3DS, it's a one way trip.

Bloop.

This is what annoys me about Nintendo. Why make everything so hard for loyal users?? The whole reason they release about 16 versions of every handheld is to make more money. Don't rub even more salt into the wound. Pretty sure this would never happen with the Sony. At least not while they have competition anyway.
