As for 3DS retail, I'd say Fire Emblem: Awakening. Now, I haven't played any other retail 3DS games this year whatsoever, but it's still a fantastic game.
As for 3DS eShop, that goes to Gunman Clive.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
3DS- Etrian Odyssey IV
3DS e-shop- Rage of the Gladiator
Wii-U- Super Mario World 3D land
Wii-U e-shop- Ducktales Remastered
PS3- Ni No Kuni (I bought the PS3 just for it)
Vita- Dragon's Crown
360- Never got turned on this year.
Dreamcast- Skies of Arcadia/Armada (yes I play my Dreamcast, almost every day)
Games that everyone told me to pick up because they were amazing, but were utter garbage. Grand Theft Auto V (the first 4 were terrible, so I should have known better), ACIV, Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, and one of the worst games I've ever played in my entire life, Little Big Planet. Pleasant suprises, Uncharted series, DK returns 3D, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and Dungeon Defenders.

Did you just consider "The Last of Us" utter garbage?! lolyeahright.
My favorite game this year was Shin Megami Tensei IV. Just an incredible game. I also got to give props to Sega for 3d'izing it's classics they are very well done and even though 16 bit they rival anything retail that's been coming out! Maybe 2014 will be the Year of Sega on the 3DS. Sega Gave it a great run in 2013
Still playing 3DS but will have Switch soon for multiplayer with friends. I miss you guys! Adam, Joni, Gavin and the rest of the Blue Rogues from the Phantasy Star Zero Days.

Yes, in fact I do. Just another EOD game. Just another 3rd person adventure/shooter, and since the game play bothered me so much, I watched a playthough with no commentary on youtube, and wasn't even impressed with the story.
It sounds more like you just don't like those type of games, in which case, I think it would be better to say "it's not to my tastes" than calling it utter garbage, since otherwise you're implying that you know of better examples of the genre and have the capacity to enjoy a game like it. I don't have a problem with you calling a game utter garbage, but when you call an entire genre garbage, that's when you cross the line.
now it's christmas and I won't get any more games this year I'll give my top 3(based on my playtime average since I couldn't chose and a game I got 2 days ago can't compete in total play time with games I got a few months ago)
1 Pokémon Y
2 MH3U
3 FE:A
my Eshop game of the year remains Steamworld Dig followed by Harmoknight and Attack of Friday Monsters
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn
now working at IBM as helpdesk analyst my Backloggery
Mine was Pokemon, but now I'm going back to Fire Emblem: Awakening as my game of the year.
Tales of the Abyss 3D is a close second.
Friend list is full, I will be clearing room for Bravely Default soon though. Colors! 3D Gallery, My Blog
NNID: KittenKoder ..... what else would it be?
My 3DS GOTY is Bravely Default. It was easy choice... Why? I was waiting a long time for such a game. A fully-voiced RPG that might appeal to Western audience. It offers hundreds hours of enjoyment. It brings many new inovations to a "dead genre". Besides it looks very nice and it has truly wonderful music. And that's why I believe this game deserves the recognition.
A strong man doesn't need to read the future... He makes his own.
For 3DS? Right now it's still Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but my answer may very well change after I've put some more time into ALBW. I just finished the 3rd dungeon and I'm really digging it so far.
