Topic: What's your game of the year?

So The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has just been named game of the year by Gamespot. What do you guys think? I'm not necessarily a Nintendo fanboy - despite being a member of a website called Nintendolife - but I honestly think this is a great choice! First of all, it acknowledges that the 3DS has had a stunning year and it's nice to see game of the year go to a handheld game for a change. Secondly, Zelda has been in a bit of a slump for years and 'Link Between Worlds' really is the best Zelda - in my opinion - since Windwaker (over a decade ago). The Last of Us was great and all and Mario was a heck of a lot of fun, but neither left me as giddy as Link did - as amazing as 3D World was, it couldn't quite shake the feeling of being a lesser or more generic 'Galaxy' game (Don't get me wrong, it's a 10 out of 10 for me, just not exactly revolutionary like a 'game of the year' should be). And giddy really is how I still feel now when I think about A Link Between Worlds, it's a game I'm dying to dive into again - and in fact that's what I'm gunna do right now - and my personal game of the year as well. What's your game of the year? Do you think Gamespot got it right?

I like Link Between Worlds but my game of the year is Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It's the game I keep coming back to again and again everyday.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

My first AC, I still play it, along with my favs X and 3D world.

You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?

Yea I love Animal Crossing too. What stops it from being my game of the year is that when the next Animal Crossing comes out, there will be no reason to revisit this one. With A Link Between Worlds, no new Zelda title could ever diminish how awesome it is and I'm pretty sure in 10 years time I'll still replay it as I do with Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time etc. That's the definition of a classic!

@linktothepichu Out of AC, Pokemon X and 3D World, what's your game of the year?

Hmm, yes, the thing with Animal Crossing is that it's "iterative", as in each iteration causes older versions to be obsolete - which is OK, but eventually even the current game will lose its appeal due to a new installment...

Anyways, I have yet to play ALBW but it's the number one item on my Christmas Wishlist! I'm excited to start playing this (apparently absolutely stunning) newest Zelda game!

It's hard to choose, but mine might be Wonderful 101, despite not being able to get the last trophy and unlocking Bayonetta. -_-

Other's than that I've thoroughly enjoyed Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World, ALBW, and so far, though I haven't finished it, I really like Rune Factory 4.

@linktothepichu Haha you have to pick one! Come on... Please

@Warruz Well the 3 other games you selected are all personal favourites so I may have to give Stanley Parables a try!

@linktothepichu #5 was Bioshock Infinite for me, it may have not the greatest combat system but I was definitely enthralled by the atmosphere and story telling.

@MeWario & @Gioku It is on sale now on Steam, worth every cent. It is a very hard game to describe, but definitely check out the Demo. It gives you an idea of the main game but is COMPLETELY different and separate from the main game and is worth playing EVEN if you have the main game.

@Warruz K ill cheek it out. Bio shock Infinite was great! I agree that the combat was good, not great, but the world was just spectacular.

You lost me when you said Zelda has been in a slump the past few years

My favorite game this year would probably go to Fire Emblem: Awakening. I haven't played ALBW or SM3DW yet, so those have a pretty good chance of taking the spot.

If Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks don't count as a slump, I don't know what does...and maybe it's just me, but I couldn't find anything to like about Skyward Sword, either. (and yes, I did go back to it, and my opinion of it has only soured more with each attempt)

It is hard to choose.
It's between Fire Emblem: Awakening, The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite.
I am getting ALBW and SM3DW on Christmas, so that'll be high on my list too.

@CanisWolfred Hey! You have a new profile picture Yea I agree, Zelda has definitely been in a slump. Twilight Princess, Phantom Hourglass, Skyward Sword etc are all decent games but really disappointing Zelda games and garbage compared to the likes of Link to the Past and the N64 titles. Link Between Worlds is a welcome return to form! What did you think of Link Between Worlds? Have you played it yet?
