They announced several major titles for Wii U for 2015 but almost nothing for 3DS except Majora's Mask and Xenoblade Chronicles (both remake) and Bravely Second. Are we approaching the end of 3DS's life? Maybe a new handheld will be announced at E3 next year? What do you think?
There's more than you think: Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Majora's Mask 3D, Fossil Fighters: Frontier, Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, and then there's the New Nintendo 3DS as well. Xenoblade Chronicles is likely and I'd love to see Bravely Second as well - plus potentially Etrian Odyssey II Untold, Etrian Odyssey V... it's not a huge number of concrete releases, but it's a start. I wouldn't be surprised if there's an influx of new software when the New Nintendo 3DS launches.
As for a new handheld announcement - no way it'll happen in 2015, not with the New Nintendo 3DS launching. I'd put very good money on a next-gen handheld being unveiled some time in 2016, though, with a Q4 2016 or a Q2 2017 release.
so far the only must have for me is monster hunter 4.fossil fighters looks kinda cool but it has to get really good reviews for me to consider buying it. codename steam could be interesting aswell even though i hate the setting and usually dont like turnbased games. i hope i will not buy majoras mask because 9/10 ten times i hate zelda. sometimes buy it because of the hype...so stupid
I can't say I'm interested in many of those. The OP is onto something, but it's not that there's a drought. There's a drought of big name IPs. Aside from Majora's Mask, nothing from the more well known IPs has been announced yet. No Mario, No Pokemon, No Kirby, No Yoshi, No Smash, No Animal Crossing, etc. And frankly, many of those have been exhausted already so I wouldn't expect much for this year. We'll probably get a Pokemon game like we usually do, there might be some kind of Mario game, Metroid is supposedly in development, and Zelda definitely is, but that's about it. I think the focus is going to be more on Wii U for this year, with maybe a few N3DS enhanced/exclusive titles for late 2015/early 2016 but aside from that I can't really see them making a whole lot of them because most of their big IPs have come and gone (and most of them usually only get one game per console).
I just wonder rather or not they are going to make a new IP or something.
Like a serious of games that will last for a while?
But I see why wouldn't they since most of the ones they have been around for a while...
Nintendo is using nostalgia as their main selling point?
In any case, would if they take a slight risk and make a game for the big IP that will be sooo great, it is already in development and still
take 3 years to be announced.
Mario for example, could go on a gigantic adventure that'll create new characters, villains, and mechanics Nintendo could reuse and stem into new games.
But yeah... At what time of the year Nintendo usually announce games for the next year?
What if they have a crap load of games to be announced in the future?

Hmm. I supposed now might be a good idea to experiment a bit. I'd certainly welcome it, there's been a lot of games lately that haven't made any major changes or improvements.

Exactly. The only things I'm particularly interested are S.T.E.A.M. and MM3D. Xenoblade and new Pokémon will be good, but not that exciting to me (already played Xenoblade, getting bored with Pokémon). I hope we get a bunch of good stuff when the N3DS is out there...
Oh... And PAL regions might get Xeodrifter next year. But that's the only thing I can think of that wasn't mentioned and I think the list we have is lacking. Really hoping for surprise announcements, but attention seems to be on the Wii U now, despite the N3DS coming soon.

@Barbiegurl777 okay maybe the word "hate" is too harsh. i dont hate the zelda games in general. they are very polished and i can totally understand why some people are so obsessed with them. i had fun with all of them (except zelda 2 that is just awful!!) but i could only complete one and that was OoT3D. in every other zelda game i get frustrated because some quest or puzzle is not logical to me at all and i have to use walkthroughs at least once in a dungeon. or i get stuck altogether. like in "a link to the past" i couldnt go further in a dungeon because i couldnt beat some enemy. i did what the walkthroughs said but that didnt work. maybe it was a bug. i dont know. i only know i ghet frustrated at some point in zelda games.
BTT:
fantasy life 2 would be cool. but they need to change a few things IMO. and mabye i would like fantasy life 2 to be a launch game for nintendos next handheld.
It's widely known Nintendo and a lot of publishers on the platform do not communicate long in advance.
I asked myself the OP's question every December since launch, and every year it has not disappointed.
Don't forget the yearly installment of Pokemon games, guys.
Every.
Single.
Year.
No, no it's not. Pokemon isn't any more annualized than it used to be, the reason why we haven't had a break since 2008 is because of the shift towards a worldwide release. Japan got a break in 2011 between BW1 and BW2. Now if we don't get a break in the next year or two then maybe we can say it's annualized but it's not a guarantee that we'll get one next year.
Exactly. The only things I'm particularly interested are S.T.E.A.M. and MM3D.
That's your problem.
I know it's incredibly subjective, but don't you think the current list of games seems to be missing something? Like... Aside from S.T.E.A.M. and Mighty No. 9, nothing coming out in 2015 seems as memorable as some of the stuff from 2013/2014. Also, ports/remakes seem more prominent.
I think I'm jumping the gun, but I have this feeling that 2015 will be lacking for the 3DS. The 3DS during 2014 felt pretty bare aside from Pokémon, Smash and Shovel Knight (although all of those kick donkey). Nothing makes me think 2015 will be different- the N3DS will help, but I doubt its popularity, and if it is successful I don't think we'll see much for it until 2016. It doesn't bother me too much since there are a bunch of games I'm interested in coming to other consoles, but I'd still like more games for my 3DS.
I had a look at the games recommended and most of them were from series/genres I don't like or were already on my list. I still think this might be a better year than 2014 because the releases look better spread-out, but I don't know how many I'll actually buy. I only added Fossil Fighters and Hatsune Miku to my list, though both are fairly strong maybes. I've never tried either series and I'm neutral on both genres, but they look like fun.
Agree to disagree? There isn't a point to debating this that seriously, considering it isn't even 2015 yet.
Sorry if that was just a joke, my detector seems to be jammed by sugar particles today
