Do either of these have the standard "turtle" layout? Somewhere in these forums I think I read that 3D Mahjong did not have it. Thanks.

3D Mahjongg doesn't but there's a layout that's a little similar. The DsiWare game 5-In-1 Mahjong does though. I dunno why some games don't have 'turtle' when it's the layout that is most common in Solitaire Mahjong. All the old games on PC, etc, have this layout, but these newer games don't and I have no idea why.

Thanks. Yeah, that is what I am used to playing, and I assumed they would have it. I'm not sure why they wouldn't either. I'll check out 5-in-1 (although I was really hoping for 3D).

A kindred spirit I see!! I'm the same way actually. I generally only play the traditional layout and never use the other layouts. One of my friends thinks I'm weird after telling him this fact. I'd be happy if a game just came with that and nothing else, like this old Gameboy game from Hal called Shanghai. It's one of my favourite GB games ever:

(weird URL but it's actually a screenshot)

I also rarely ever use other tilesets besides the traditional Chinese characters.

It's sad when games don't include it yet make up 100+ layouts of dogs and ice cream and castles instead. Even the Mahjong in Nintendo's Clubhouse games doesn't have it.

3D Mahjong is still a good game though, just lacking turtle. I don't like how 5-in-1 Mahjong highlights every single tile that's movable (although you never tell from the screenshots online. Every tile is bright but in the actual game, it isn't) 'cause that's kinda like cheating to me (I never shuffle either) but aside from that it's good. Do you know any other game that doesn't highlight tiles AND has turtle? I have a PC game that has both but I'd like to play one on the go as well.

Oh, keep in mind that 5-in-1 Mahjong is weird. The layout section where you choose one is sorta random. The layout is there, as I said, but sometimes it's not there. It comes on and off so you may not see it sometimes.

Yes, definitely a kindred spirit. I have a freeware Mahjong game with the turtle layout on my PC that I have played for years as a quick study/work break, and what I really wanted was just to be able to play that in 3D on my 3ds. I also don't like the idea of highlighting in 5-in-1. Hm, maybe if I do not find out anything about 3D Game Collection, I'll just go with 3D Mahjong; it sounds pretty good. I do not know of any other games with turtle.

I read somewhere here that 3D Game Collection's Mahjong is pretty basic compared to 3D Mahjongg but I don't have the game myself so I can't give any details.

What is that free game you got on PC? I'm just curious though as I already have my own PC game that I play. It's called Mahjong Suite (http://www.mahjongsuite.com/) and it's really good. You do have to pay for it though!

My favourite Mahjong game of all time though is this old PC game called Shanghai: Great Moments from Activision. It has some really unique modes that aren't found elsewhere (of course it has the normal mode too), really beautiful tilesets, and other things.

Link has screenshots and reviews. Hey, even IGN gave it an 8.8. Sadly, the game refuses to run period unless you switch to 8-bit 256 colour mode, and it's annoying to keep changing colours just to play it. I wish they rereleased it to run on newer computers but anyway, I bought Mahjong Suite to replace this one.

I'm traveling, and that game is only on my desktop (not my laptop). I'll try to remember to check what it is when I get home. It is pretty old, though. Windows 7 also has built in "Mahjong Titans," which I find good for basic play, and it includes the turtle.
