In danger of making plenty of you - and us, we might add - feel dangerously old, today marks the 20th anniversary of Pokémon Yellow's European launch.
The game celebrated its 'proper' 20th anniversary a couple of years ago, thanks to its original Japanese launch date of 12th, September 1998. Those of us in Europe had to wait a little bit longer, but we imagine the Poké-memories it made for the franchise's biggest fans was more than worth the wait.
Pokémon Yellow is, of course, an enhanced version of the series' debut entries, Pokémon Red and Blue. It followed an almost identical plot and was based in the same region, but included small differences that fell in line with the ever-popular anime series that had captured the hearts of fans since Red and Blue's release.
Who could forget seeing Team Rocket's Jessie, James, and Meowth on their Game Boy for the first time, or having your little Pikachu waddle around behind you as you explore everything Kanto has to offer for a second time around? Ah, nostalgia's a wonderful thing, huh?
Do you have any wonderful memories of playing Pokémon Yellow back in the day? Feel free to share them with us in the comments below.

And I got mine last year Still need to find time to play it.
Ah, doing Joe Merrick's job of making you feel old today, eh?
Wow, it makes me feel old. I was seven when I was desperately asking for this, trying to explain the difference between this and the other two versions me and my brother already had!
I'm happy to finally be part of that community! Sorry for the off topic message!
Last year was 19 years ago and next year will be 21 years ago.
Thanks for making me feel old 😂
I remember losing my level 100 Pikachu to the ether when my link cable tragically disconnected mid-transfer. So no more travel companion. At least the rest of my team is still preserved on a copy of Stadium 2.
Pokemon Yellow was my first Pokemon game and I bought my first Game Boy (Color) to play it on.
Ryan, you’re making me feel old with these articles, plz stop 😂
Can't believe it was so long ago. The nostalgia is real...
Weird that Yellow was released in Europe only a few months before Gold/Silver were released in NA/Australia.
While I loved the GO version on switch, the removal of the majority of the battle system sort of ruined a fantastic memory of this game for me. I still played it. I still enjoyed it. I just really really missed the battle system for catching Pokémon. Fond memories of being absolutely STOKED to get this game back when it was originally released.
