Re: Commodore 64 games on the Virtual Console

neuzd

The Norwegian site of Nintendo has removed the C=64 release info (Impossible Mission) from their virtual console page.

It was the only official site who posted it.
One should hope they're hiding it because it had to be a "surprise".

Don't know...fingers crossed.

Re: Opera Browser Available NOW

WOW, thanks to Zee I just discovered wiiminder.
I just watched their video and didn't try my Wii (I'm at work), but it really looks a great tool.
Used in conjunction with this new version of Opera may be a very pleasant web-surfing experience.

These guys have worked in a pretty Nintendo fashion (or Apple-style, you perfectly know what I'm talking about), why no one is talking about it?
Check it out from your Wii.

Re: Opera Browser Available NOW

I see that comments are not prompted update, I hope not to post superfuolus informations.

- Speed of startup process, acess to favorites and rendering of pages is dramatically improved.
- Search tool (search text in a page).
- info of a web-page (web address, http vs https) summarized by pressing a button.
- zooming is improved. 2 different styles of zoom (set in an settings page), but the "automatic zoom", which I guess should work like that on the beta version, doesn't work fine like the old one. The other one
is great and also manages the size of the font (quite obvious, but it really works well!).
- Hyperlinks are more visibile (a cyan coloured square appears around the link under the pointer).
- You can hide the toolbar (automatic, fixed or you decide when to hide it by pressing 1).
- In the settings menu you can decide the size of the visible area of the page.
- You can delete cookies of your prevoius sessions.

OK, these are the major features, or at least those I explored; there's also an improved handling over javascript-opening pages but I didn't try it. In particular I remember having problems with flash games, which windows closed after few miuntes of play.

And another important thing not directly related to the Internet Channel is that there is a software update (probably about the Wii Shop).
In the wii-settings menu the new version is numbered 2.2E.

Enjoy!

Re: Opera Browser Available NOW

@tom: it doesn't matter how many people have this version. A browser is a client software that runs on your machine. So if it looks faster, it IS faster. Of course I'm talking of everything that does not involve web access: from the startup sequence, access to favorites, to the rendering of pages.

Performance is always the first thing that undergoes improvement.

Here's something more about this release (yes I rely too much on wikipedia, but since no one's really answering....):

Re: Opera Browser Available NOW

Good news!
Those who downloaded it may post their impression before I get home?
Too easy just saying: "it's out". : )

I liked the zooming; ok, sometimes the tool didn't work perfect and you had to try different times before having a readable pragraph without the need of scrolling the page, but since I am a software developer that loves simple but effective solutions, I think it was a very useful (and smart!) tool.

Re: Commodore 64 games on the Virtual Console

@Steve: I'm talking of the NES. Strange thing you also wrote it right, because I think you were thinking about the SNES (which is a 16bit machine....like the Amiga).
the NES came out on July 1983 in Japan, and C=64 saw the light of the day on August 1982. There is not a decade between them.

@DEMON212: please link something. I think those you are talking are rumors, except for NEOGEO and MSX which are listed in the official japanese Nintendo site.
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/features/virtual_console.html

In particular I doubt about Dreamcast. By the way, I'll be very happy to be wrong about this.

Re: Commodore 64 games on the Virtual Console

neuzd

But that of having a computer instead of a gaming console was a "trick" used by many, not only kids for fooling parents.

I already owned a C=64 but I wanted to buy a NES. That hateful guy working in the videogame store convinced me that I already had a beatiful gaming machine and that consoles were something that were going to fail soon.

I regret not having been resolute. The NES was eons forward in comparison to the C=64.
Anyway, I loved my "breadbox", and I'm proud of it!

Re: Commodore 64 games on the Virtual Console

neuzd

Saboteur !!!!!!! Both episodes.

Lucasfilm adventures: Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken. There were better versions, but for MM I'd prefer the C64 instead of the NES; you know, that's the original.

There are 3D games that I'd like to know how they run in emulation.
How about Elite and The Sentinel?

Anyway, now I can dream of Amiga....

Re: Opera Browser for Wii - Full version in April

neuzd

Don't get me wrong.
I'm the only one who kept answering your questions and tried to help you clear your doubts.

I know my words don't sound always nice and kind but I'm coming back to this page everyday to see if you're satisfied with my infos.

About what I was finding "strange": You ask if it's worth the download and then say you noticed some bugs.
Kinda puzzling. How did you get the ability to test a software without downloading it?
If you were talking of hte final version. Well: no one kows, it's still unreleased.
Talking of "advantages & disadvantages"...there are no real advantages or disadvantages; if you were talking of differences with a computer-based browser, the biggest issue is the lack of a keyboard on the Wii and so typing is someway slow. Other "problems" are listed as "improved features" on the top of this page, so we can hope our surfing will be more enjoyable.

So, I'm not being rude, I like to pay attention to things and if there's something I didn't get about someone who I'd like to help, I put an accent on it, so I can undestand, too.

Re: Opera Browser for Wii - Full version in April

neuzd

Why not trying downloading it? If you don't like it you can erase it from the Wii.
It's free, you don't have to ask this question: find out yourself if it's worth the download.

Anyway if you're like me that has the Wii next to a computer, you may prefer browsing the web on a more friendly environment. Even if they put a lot of new features in the final version, I doubt it may become more useful than a computer browser driven by a mouse.

I hope not to offend you, but all your messages are even more strange. It looks that you aren't perfectly aware of what a browser is for...

Re: Opera Browser for Wii - Full version in April

neuzd

It sounds that you don't know exactly how it works.
But I think my answer was right, so you should have put more attention to it.

As long as you have a computer which can connect to the Internet from your house, you can do the same with your wii. You don't have to pay anything more. Because you're already paying
The way you connect your wii to the web may change.

And talking of dial-up, again, you are wrong about it. Dial-up is a method of accessing the internet via phone-cables. So, if you're on DSL you have NOT dial-up access (and that's a good thing).
If you have dial-up access (that means 56kb) forget using you Wii on the web.

Also, you're talking of Operating Systems which are something you don't have to care about...you DO NOT know what kind of servers your ISP is using. ISPs are mostly Telephone Companies. For example, you should say: "I have a 4Mb DSL connection with Cingular".

You talk in a strange way....
Have you ever tried to connect your Wii to the Nintendo WiFi Connection? (there's no need of a browser to "be online", just to surf the WWW).

Re: Opera Browser for Wii - Full version in April

neuzd

I'm not sure I understood the question, but you don't have to pay anything (money or wii points) to use the Internet Channel on your Wii.

It is supposed that a Wii is placed inside a house, so it should use the same Internet conncection of other devices you already have.
You are already paying you ISP (if not, well, tell me how you do it!), and you are allowed to use anything that has online capabilities.

If you have a dial-up connection it's very difficult that you may use the Nintendo WiFI connection properly, but nowadays almost every service on the Internet needs client to have a fast connection speed, so you should think to upgrade.

Also a constant connection is NOT a must. If you have one, your Wii can receive updates when you're out, or when you're asleep. But it is not really important. I have a always-on connection, but I don't like my Wii to do things alone, so I don't use it purposedly. It's on the Internet just when I am watching.

Hope it's the right answer. Your question was a bit confused.

Re: US VC Releases - 26th March - RoTK IV

neuzd

@DEMON212:

Did you ENTER the shop? The front page is not updated in time, but games should be there. I say "should" because, as I posted elsewhere, today's releases all needed zero free blocks: it doesn't look quite right...

But last friday I downloaded Zelda 3 while the front page was still displaying previous week releases as latest news.

Re: Europe VC Releases - 30th March - Punch out!!

neuzd

WHATTAWEEK!
I was going to download Mystical Ninja + Dragon's Curse tonight, but it seemed the games needed 0 (zero) free blocks on the wii. I decided to download them in another moment....

I heard Americans are getting Deadly Towers and the VCS version of E.T. the ExtratTerrestrial.
This will happen every monday from now on, with no other titles added.

I see a sleepless saturday night playing Ganbare Goemon until our bellies will be ripped by our own laughters.

Re: Opera Browser for Wii - Full version in April

neuzd

This looks like the the place I was looking for to have some questions answered..everything is about Wii+Opera beta.

First of all, I did visit youtube just once but movies did not load, it showed the first few seconds of the movie and then also the "load bar" stopped. Anyone having problems on youtube? I think it was a momentary problem (since the movie was playing for some seconds), but I never tried again.

Second question is about this wonderful site! Again I just visited once, but comments were not visible and that's a very important part of the site. So, are users' thoughts displayed and the site totally enjoyable from my beloved Zebes (that's the nick of my wii)?

Thanks.

Re: US VC Releases - 26th March - RoTK IV

neuzd

I also ask myself how is that there are guys who are buying EVERY vc title and they're whining at every release that they don't like.
What's the point in that? It makes me think of those late '80s when literally everyone was copying Amiga disks and everyone had every game, but if you were looking for a competitive challenge....you had to realize that people had games but no will to play them.

So...don't buy all games, play one.

And I realized about a title no-one is talking about (in fact it hasn't been announced, but...):
hell, it's a hardcore game. It's a game that turns your ego into a god when you master it... F-ZERO X !!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

neuzd

About the optimization.

Is anyone sure (and I say:SURE) about the speed?
I don't know the way used to check all the other games....

Since here and on the Wikipedia page there are doubts about the speed, I tried myself to run a ROM on an emulator along with the VC title. Two monitors running the same scene one next the other.

I think A Link to the Past has NO optimised speed.

I noticed the text was running faster on the VC title, but the movements of Link were a bit slower.

Maybe my method is totally untrustable, I don't know. What's the "official" way of checking the speed?

Re: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

neuzd

Looks like the borders are reduced (I saw Kirby and noticed them a lot more), for the speed I can't say, but since it's not f-zero or sonic I think the gamplay doesn't suffer.

I didn't feel any particular problem trying it.

Zeruda No Densetsu!!!!

Re: Super Metroid

Mendez, you really don't know what you are talking about!!!!!!!!!!
Liked Fusion and Zero Mission? If so, you simply NEED Super Metroid.

I want it so much I can't stop shinesparking on the walls of my room, but I'll be patient...I hope I will.

You putrid Space Pirates scum, I'm gonna blast away the whole planet if I need to...
RIIIDLEEEEYYYYYY, you are dead, do you hear me?
YOU ARE DEAD!!!!!!

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

neuzd

I think most readers missed the youtube link Dazza posted.
Check that video because beyond the irony (but it's also really funny) there's a realistic view about the design-flaws of this game.

I mean: a "challenging" or "hard" game are welcomed, but this does not look like a "game", it's a "collection of rules".
In 2 words: no fun.

Anyone is free to love this game, of course, but I ask myself: "Do these people ever played a Mario, Kirby, Metroid or Zelda episode?".

Re: Top Five Most Wanted Virtual Console Games

neuzd

I played a Link to The Past when I was 29, about 12 years after its first release; so I can tell for sure that's simply the best game ever. No chances even for OoT.

2D Metroid are also another drug I'm addicted to...I just NEED Super Metroid.

Don't care for anything but these 2 pieces of art.
