With Madden successfully brought to Switch 2, it would be sensible for EA to now port their NHL game as well, particularly since it’s currently stranded on the fading Xbox and PlayStation platforms (it’s not on PC either), and fans there regularly skip the annual installments that are often little more than roster updates. Getting on Switch 2 would be a great way to boost the install base for the game. Unfortunately, EA cares so little about NHL, and puts so few resources into the game, that porting to a new platform might literally be beyond their capabilities at this point.
I know ice hockey has become pretty niche compared to other sports, but it’s utterly insane that the Switch 1, the #2 console in history, went its entire lifetime without a modern hockey game. Australian Rules Football was better represented on the platform than hockey, and both EA and the NHL should be ashamed.
I’ve bought all the DLC for Atari 50 and hopped right on this. So far Dig Dug feels the best, and Pac-Man for 2600 is as awful as I remember. It’s too tedious to even want to finish a single level.
Surely the holy grail for Atari 50 would be to license the post-split “Atari Games” arcade stuff (basically Marble Madness and everything after), both because it represents so many great games and also because ports of those titles made up a big part of the Lynx library, which is poorly represented in Atari 50. But if it hasn’t happened yet, what chance is there that it ever will?
