This seems to me just like a normal lithium ion battery problem. If you leave it uncharged for long periods of time the voltage may decrease and not be enough for the device to turn on. Or it's like the PSVita battery problem: you would need to disconnect and reconnect the battery from the circuit as it would "reset" the battery. It's just a hunch though.
