Not mentioning any of Blomkamp's work between District 9 and Gran Turismo speaks louder than the deserved praise District 9 received. His other feature films are so wrapped up in his message that they are inaccessible or are only remembered for being bad. I've seen some of his shorts and they're very atmospheric and his aesthetic sense is on point for Metroid; I just don't think his directorial vision is right.
Elysium was meant to be a send up of American blockbuster action movies and he was so successful at it that Elysium is exactly what it parodied: an incoherent mess with bad fight scenes and Matt Damon. I might one day watch Chappie, but will require something more than sympathy for a robot with a Tamagotchi face.
I'd also like to point out that Blomkamp wanted to direct a movie in the Alien franchise that retconned everything after Aliens (Alien: Resurrection would be no great loss), and Ridley Scott said no.
TL;DR Neill Blomkamp is a one hit wonder when it comes to movies.
