As a jaded, long time player of RPGs I was skeptical but hopeful. So far, and I say that admitting only 8 hours into the adventure, I have very high praise for the game. This isn't a place for length review so I'll point out a few things. Talking to monsters? That works out really well, you can definitely tell the pattern, it's often not that hard, but the dialogue options have surprised me and were genuinely fun so often. It's a treat to recruit demons. The game doesn't hold your hand so hard, where as nintendo likes to rob your ability to feel clever by slowly explaining concepts you figured out instantly, this game lets you kind of just play it. That's awesome. The guides and story bits you have to read are geniunely interesting. Now I've heard the story is "incomprehenible" to new players. Yeah, maybe if you're illiterate, but it's not THAT complex. Just read some stuff, it's all provided in game, not hard, and quite intriguing. I love having story that way instead of crammed down my throat through repeated, unskippable info dumps that many nintendo rpgs feel obligated to provide. I love the demons and angels, they're both totally creepy and have interesting agendas. Combat, even on hard difficulty feels a little too easy, but honestly what RPG is legit hard without basing combat on chance. Also, the pace at which I gain and replace monsters doesn't settle well with my typical desire to max out everything, but i'm going with the flow and loving it. Any monster you get you can save their stat/ability combo in the "grimoire" so that you can summon at any time, so I really am just being irrational on that point. Basically, it's awesome. Try it out.

These seminal classics still have much to teach in terms of sound track design, level design, and consistency of controls. This would be a great addition to the handheld library were it not for one thing. These games run horribly on 3ds. I have not tried them on "new! 3ds" hardware. Have you people not played it? The amount of slow down that was not present in the original is staggering and honestly ruins the experience for me. You're much better off just pirating these or getting a collection on a system that can power through the embarrassingly, abysmal port of software that could run on consoles nearly 30 years ago.

@cfgk24 I love your album Banjo Pop! I was linked to it from here, so don't go taking this as a sign that you made it big. But I'll definitely pass along the link to my friends who appreciate solid electronic music.
