@Crono1973 You are probably right. Odds are Nintendo is not going to change their path with their online plans. Nintendo dropping the ball on this also affects third party developers who create software that heavily relies on voice communication as part of the gameplay experience. Nintendo's interface makes for an inferior experience when compared to Sony or Microsoft. What a dumb way to shoot yourself and others in the foot. I don't know how Nintendo creates so much magic with one hand and mayhem with the other. Just stupid.
@Anguspuss
Roger that! I'm not spending a penny on their voice chat equipment...terrible. If I have to pay to play online...I'll do that. But I'm with you in that we should speak up and send Nintendo a message. Their online chat option is terrible. Terrible.
@KirbyTheVampire This would be "subpar" about 15 years ago...this option is horrible. Let's be real. Horrible. Hooking up your phone and these weird wires to get voice chat on a console in 2017 is just stupid. I love my Switch...I'm not going to even bother with Nintendo's online voice chat because it's so bad. I'll pay to play online, but they can keep their crap voice chat equipment and setup. Such a hassle and step backwards for consumers. Let's just face it.
Halo 2 on the original XBOX, released in 2004!!!, had a better online network and a better voice chat option than Nintendo's brand new 2017 online voice chat/service option. People just need to be straight up with Nintendo...this option sucks. The Switch is awesome, the voice chat and probably their future online network...ugggg...what the heck, man? Seriously. Get it together Nintendo. You can do so much better. So much better.
It absolutely will suffer, to what extent, I don't know.
You're talking about not having a multi-million copy selling game on the console. There is NO WAY the Switch WON'T suffer from that.
You don't seem to understand that not having games like this on the Switch platform is not only symptomatic of other issues, but it leads to people spending money on other platforms.
There is NO upside to not having Destiny 2, and other multi-million unit selling third party titles on Switch. You live in a fantasy world if you think otherwise.
You're making a ridiculous statement. Obviously, some people thought it sucked, perhaps yourself included, but a lot of people, including myself really like that game.
More importantly, Bungie is the developer that essentially built the XBOX brand. This is why Sony so aggressively formed a close bond with them when they went third party and why so much exclusive content is on the PlayStation platform when it comes to Destiny.
Whether you like the game or not is irrelevant when looking at the big picture. Nintendo not being able to court Bungie to the Switch platform is a sign of many other problems. I'll be addressing those on my YouTube channel in more detail in an upcoming video.
Trust me. Bungies firm statement about how there are NO plans to bring Destiny 2 to Switch is a HUGE blow to the Switch platform. This could be the signal of a short and bright console cycle. Switch might fade fast if this trend continues.
I love my Nintendo Switch, but this is a bad sign for sure. Nintendo is once again alienating the core audience by not being able to court these sort of titles on their platform. This is what causes nearly every 'core' gamer on the Nintendo platform to toss at least $500 towards Sony or Microsoft...EVERY generation since the Gamecube. Lesson never learned by Nintendo. Such a shame.
If this trend continues, and I don't see how it won't with this bombshell, then the Switch is going to be a brief success story. It won't survive a long console cycle and its sales will drop off dramatically.
The best console they ever made was the SNES. Powerful and home to amazing 1st and third party support. They've never attempted that formula since.
