As a parent, it feels like I’ve spent more time administrating games and licenses and online accounts - and now Virtual Cards - with the Nintendo Switch that could have otherwise been spent enjoying gaming with my kids. Just Dance’s online pass was a good example that only worked on the Primary Switch, meaning I could no longer take my Switch with me on business trips if the kids wanted to play Just Dance while I was away.

My 10yo discovered yesterday that he could no longer pick up and play Animal Crossing on his Switch without me sharing it to him first, but now we can’t easily give each other items between islands anymore.

My first system was a NES. Over my years I thought Nintendo was synonymous with sharing and fun, and now I’m just bitter and cynical.
