@Onion Physical media does not last forever, but enough if you take good care of it. I have Sonic 1 from Master System since 1991 and I am proud to say that it rarely causes any problems even these days.
If I can't buy a game on a console in time, I can still get it years later. I bought Kingdom Hearts for PS2 several years after its release because physical media allows this.
But digital media and DLCs don't work that way. They are in fact temporary and this is not something that anyone can control (Unlike physical media).
If I didn't buy something exclusive in the Wii Shop before it closed... Game Over. I will never be able to play again unless the company is kind enough to re-release this game, but not all of them come to that.
Physical media and digital media both do not last forever. But if you have a bit of luck and care, the physical media can last for the rest of your life,that's all matters.
