I'm a professional 2-D animator, and the outcry I've seen about this is absolutely ridiculous. The frame capture is an inbetween, not a key frame. You could go to a classically animated disney movie and see inbetweens just as bad, or even a higher budget anime movie. Plus, they move a lot in that cut, you literally cannot see this drawing in motion. I guess I understand fans getting upset over the change in direction of the character design of a long standing franchise, but it's not objectively bad. In ways it's following similar trends in the anime industry as a whole. Add to that the fact the doga animators get between 100 - 200 ¥ a drawing, and genga animators get like 5000¥ a scene on average, I mean to be able to afford a life, I'll allow a few bad drawings to slip on by...
