Re: Opinion: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's Best Gameplay Feature Is Straight Out Of Mario's Playbook

I find the games qte's just break the game part of the game. Why ever pay attention to what loadouts your team has if you can just never be damaged. Felt fun for the first area. But when you are picking up the passive things to equip every two seconds looking through menus trying to read what they do I just found myself thinking. What's the point of this. If I just push the button at the right time there is literally nothing to worry about.

I'm still excited to play the rest of it with the engaging story, voice acting and fantastic music. But the defensive quick time events undermine the entirety of the rest of the game mechanics. Who cares if you get one shot by the enemy if you just don't take damage. At which point don't bother with the defensive stats. Just go raw damage to offset the fact I don't want to bother with the pictos since it just feels unnecessary.

It was extra funny when hearing them talk about a tough enemy in the distance and one of the characters goes "don't even think about approaching one of those" lone behold around the a corner is a smaller version of it. And it's absolutely beatable right then and there. Took me two tries. So at that point it's not just undermining the game mechanics. But also the world building. A big hulking monster that supposed to seem unbeatable now and probably designed to be a fight you come back to and make you feel like you have gotten stronger thought the game. Oh wait. This monster actually just doesn't do damage. Nevermind

There was one fight I didn't bother brute forcing (which I use that term a little loosely. I think the most tries iv taken so far are 4) was one where when I got the perfect parry counter attack for acouple thousand. The health bar barely moved, at which point there probably isn't to much else to do than a large amount of brute force or wait till later.

Hopefully I'm not sounding like I'm saying if you enjoy it you are wrong. It's fine, it's a game. A game with many other great qualities. I also said I did enjoy it too at first. I just learned it quickly and found it was really the only thing worth focusing on. This is just a place where the games qte mechanics are being talked about specifically. So I wanted to share another perspective
