But Race with Ryan has 12 tracks, 6 being reverse, but there’s apparently a new version out with 4 new tracks which is laughable, more so when you consider it launched for £35. In my eyes, it was a £10 game. Even Fruit Racing had plenty of tracks and that was £10 on cart. These Mario Kart clones have become a rip off.
The NES was a home console, the Switch is a handheld console that can be plugged into a TV, which was the case with Sony's PSP in 2005/06. You could go on forever comparing console sales. How about Saturn versus Game Boy Colour? Or Game Gear versus the Amstrad GX4000? Pointless exercise comparing a handheld console to a home console. Nintendo never replaced the Wii U, it only replaced the 3DS with the Switch, no matter what Nintendo claims.
Wasn't this a budget release on the Wii U? I picked this up for £20, but tops it was £30. The 3DS and Switch versions are missing the Mario 3D World levels. I suppose Nintendo will cash in by releasing them as DLC, cant see it being free. Gret game, but it's not worth £30 to £40.
The Wii U is good enough for Nintendo which has been the case for all of its consoles, but when it comes to thirdparty support, Nintendo couldn't care less. But the Wii had poor thirdparty support, yet it outsold all over consoles. But the Wii U going up against the Xbox 720 and PS4, it'll have no chance. Even though the Wii U can keep up with the Xbox 360 and PS3, it's a wasted effort as the Xbox 720 and PS4 will be released this year. Cross format games will get thinner (on the Wii U), plus most publishers are not interested in the Wii U. EA has washed its hands with the Wii U and I can't see that changing, plus some publishers will pull of plug on the Wii U, if not most publishers. Same old, same old from Nintendo (latest Nintendo Direct news).
I played every game in the series and they all bored me sh**tless, so can't say I'll be interested in HD remakes. I don't know why I even completed them all.
The Dreamcast version was the best version. Can't say I've played many Star Wars games, but this was the only good one I played. I wouldn't say no to a sequel on next gen consoles.
@Trikeboy I remember the big box. But at the time, I didn't see what all the fuss was about (with the game). Metroid was decent on the GameCube, I thought Metroid 2 was a bit better. After that, I never played anymore Metroid games. I remember a Metroid pinball game on the DS (think it was only released in Japan and the US), but never got to play it. As for PAL Nintendo 64 game boxes, PAL Australian boxes put them to shame. Whoever gave the thumbs up for the design should have been demoted.
I remember when the Nintendo 64 was released in the UK, games came in awful black (tacky) cardboard boxes and the likes of Super Mario 64 and Wave Race 64 had black borders which was shocking. On top of that, games topped £60 (Turok was £70). Even in 2013, Nintendo still continues to release games with black borders. And with the Wii U fiasco, it just gets worse.
It's shocking that Nintendo has built a console that's not future proof. At some point, all high end games won't be possible on the Wii U. I suppose people will have a go at EA, but it's not their fault that Nintendo went down the current gen road. And publishers skipping and pulling the plug on the Wii U, is Nintendo's fault. As mentioned before, Nintendo builds its consoles around what's best for them. As with all of Nintendo's consoles from the Nintendo 64, Nintendo will be virtually on it's own, as third party support will be p**s poor.
@ThumperUK It would be mad for Ubisoft not bring it to the Xbox 360 and PS3, but can't see it what with the Xbox 720 and PS4 on the horizon. Rather than release a sequel for the above consoles, ZombiU is a wasted opportunity. Set in London is a great idea. But I'd like to see a bigger sequel without the annoying game play. I don't see the point in using London again. It'll probably end up being set in NY or something.
Zombiu could end up the Xbox 360 and the PS3 with a slight name change. But it might be a case that Ubisoft cans that idea and goes straight for a sequel. If a sequel is heading for the Wii U, it might also be heading for the Xbox 360 and PS3, or Ubisoft cans that idea and crosses over to the Xbox 720 and PS4. Even though Zombiu hasn't hit high enough sales on the Wii U, a sequel could be possible. SEGA's Condemned flopped on the Xbox 360, but a sequel was released and it also appeared on the PS3 (the sequel also flopped). CODE: Veronica flopped on the Dreamcast, next it appeared on the PS2 and GameCube with a slight name change, but not sure how sales went. Looks like Ubisoft have hit a brick wall with the Wii U. The next Rayman isn't a Wii U exclusive anymore which I'm not too bothered about. Other publishers are jumping ship or have decided to skip the Wii U. But I still say that publishers will have problems with the Xbox 720 and PS4, as gaming is going to hit a brick wall anyway. People crossing over to new consoles is going to be a slow process which will dent game sales (like Zombiu).
SEGA killed Sonic after the Dreamcast, but Sonic Shuffle didn't do the franchise any favours. Can't see Shenmue 3 being in there, but most other SEGA franchises just don't do it for me. SEGA Rally and Daytona USA are dead franchises. Seems that most of SEGA's franchises are either dead or just overrated. I wouldn't say no to Shenmue 3, but realistically, Outrun 3 could be in there. Maybe even Nintendo's F-Zero which SEGA now develop. I always thought SEGA would breath some life into ESWAT. On another note, I know the dogs are barking at the likes of Virtua Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive, but Virtua Fighter 6 is a must have. As for Saturn games on the Virtual Console, PSN and Xbox Live, 32 bit consoles just didn't do it graphically, even on the PlayStation. As a matter of fact, 32 bit consoles are probably the worst out there for retro gaming. 3D graphics got what they deserved with the Dreamcast, Xbox, GameCube and PlayStation 2. There's a tiny amount of games worth playing when it comes to 32 bit games. And you can't beat playing old games on a console. It's madness paying to download old games.
Annoying that it was released on the Xbox 360 and PS3, but GAME had an exclusive (you got an extra track to download), now there's another version (Powered Up Edition), but there's nothing on the Codemasters website about it. Not sure if this is coming out on other formats, but I suppose games like this are more suited for Nintendo consoles. From playing it, most of the tracks are quite boring and the gameplay can be annoying at times.
@CasuallyDressed Must admit that £150 is a great price, but if you add the extras (hard drive, sensor bar, remote, nunchuk and 2 games), it's just not worth it. I think Nintendo will have to come up with bigger packs and cheaper prices.
@BestBuck123 It should be £199.99 with a 250GB hard drive, sensor bar, remote, nunchuk, gamepad, controller and game. Even in 2005, the Xbox 360 came with a hard drive. In fact, the Wii U doesn't even have a hard drive bay. In the future, there might be a hard drive model released, but can't see it because the Wii U will be joining the Dreamcast in Console Heaven.
I'd rather invest in an Xbox 720 or PS4, then just buy a Wii U later as a budget console. I think Nintendo will announce an official price drop soon, or maybe it'll be a case that they're forced to.
@HaNks Rumour has it that Asda needed to discount the Wii U as they had too many consoles. I can see certain stores not stocking it or it may just be a case that all stores will just stock this and that (I can't see Asda not stocking it at all). All retailers will have to plan for the Xbox 720 and PS4 (shelf space). Once those 2 consoles come along, Nintendo will be forced into an official price drop, probably making a loss. Nintendo gave in to a 3DS price drop after about a year (from £229.99 to £149.99), so it look like a re-run with the Wii U.
It makes me laugh when people say that the Wii U needs a killer title to sell it (the console). It'll need a lot of killer titles to sell it, even at £150. Nintendo sending messages to all Wii and Wii U owners explaining what the Wii U is, is just desperation. Nintendo have made way too many mistakes with the Wii U and I just can't see how they're going to get out of it. New games from Nintendo, it doesn't happen often, which is the case with every Nintendo console. The same old franchises isn't going to do the Wii U any favours. Thirdparty support for the Wii U will never be strong and at some point, cross format games will start to thin due to its weak tech compared to the Xbox 720 and PS4. And the Wii U selling cheaper than the 3DS XL is just comical. As a matter of fact, the 3DS should be around £100. Even discounted, the Wii U is just too expensive when you add the extras (hard drive, controller and remote etc.). As much as I like Nintendo, they've messed up big time. And once the Xbox 720 and PS4 come along, it's going to hit Nintendo hard. On top of that, by then, the Xbox 360 and PS3 will be discounted. Tough times ahead for Nintendo.
@HawkeyeWii The console will come packaged with a GamePad (the one with the screen). You'll have to pay extra for a Pro Controller. Also, Wii stuff also works with the Wii U, so even the Classic Controllers will work. Seems Nintendo have once again confused the consumer shall we say.
Going off the Classic Controller for the Wii, I can imagine the Pro Controller for the Wii U following in its footsteps. That cheap looking high glosss plastic is the main problem. Yes, it looks like the Xbox 360 Controller, but no way will the build quality be as good. Kick on the teeth that it'll sell for £40 in the UK.
I'd say the next GTA and Read Dead will come to the Wii U. Rockstar poorly supported the Wii, but with the Wii U, the power is there. Even the next LA Noire could be possible.
I actually thought the Wii was quite a poor console. It didn't have many great games, there wasn't a lot of games for it, plus most publishers ditched it or just wouldn't touch it. But the Wii U will be a better console, but I just can't see it selling as much as the Wii which went on to sell over 95 million units. Gamers know there's going to be new consoles from Sony and Microsoft, but most true Nintendo fans are the minority who'll buy it at launch and onwards. The majority will sit back and wait for a price drop. Most gamers are wary of what happened with the Wii. But future wise, the Wii U won't be able to keep up with Sony's and Microsoft's next consoles. But they might just do a Nintendo and take their current consoles and beef them up, something that Nintendo did with the Wii (a beefed up GameCube). No matter what, Sony and Microsoft will just copy the Wii U and add extras. Nintendo isn't serious about online games, but we all know that Sony and Microsoft are. The fact that the Wii U doesn't even come with a hard drive is shocking. Games wise, Nintendo will always knock out the same stuff, but I hope I'm wrong. I'm still waiting for all these amazing games from Nintendo, but history has proven that they don't release a lot of games. But Sony and Microsoft also knock out the same old stuff, but with Nintendo, there's more pressure on their shoulders. The Wii U will be a great console, but that packs, pricing and added extras will put most people off. You can't even buy a premium pack in white which I think is shocking. The controller (with the screen) has bumped the price up, they'll sell for around £110 in the US. They'll sell out at launch because that's what Nintendo fans do, but like I say, the majority won't pay into it just yet.
@wiiwii And it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it's delayed in Europe. Japan will be getting it defo this year, I'd say the US also, but Europe, I'm not so sure. The Wii and 3DS are selling well, so Nintendo can still keep going for a bit if there is a delay in Europe.
@Araknie I bet it's a decent game, but as we all know, Zombie games are all tied to the same brush. But what annoys me with these games is that it's always a case of limited weapons and ammo, plus Zombies take too long to finish off. I bet Ubisoft are working on a version for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It was the same case with Code Veronica on the Dreamcast which was an exclusive, but it appeared on the PS2 under a slightly different title. There's no way Ubisoft would build a game and just leave it for one console.
@LEGEND_MARIOID I suppose Nintendo waited, then unleased the XL model to make more money. Every company is at it, more so Nintendo. And Nintendo profits are well down, but I can't see the XL doing them many favours.
Every console should have a lot of power and a lot of great games, the likes of the Wii for example didn't have that. The next gen console war will all be about power and games, not just one of them. I just can't see the Wii U holding up for long against the Xbox 720 and PS4. I'd say the PS4 will be the monster of the 3 consoles. Nintendo will just bang on releasing the same old games, other publishers will eventually just leave the Wii U like what they did with the Wii. As much as I like Nintendo, I think they've messed up with the Wii U. None of the next gen consoles are out yet and already there's a power war going on.
As much as I'm looking forward to the Wii U, I just can't see it being a console for shooters, more so when it doesn't have a dedicated controller for this genre. On top of that, most publishers will probably sit back to see how console sales go. I think shooters are best left for the PC, Xbox and PlayStation. But if Nintendo wants to change that, it needs to release a dedicated controller like with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Gamers and publishers just don't seem to take Nintendo consoles seriously when it comes to serious games. But I just can't see how the Wii U will fair against the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 which will be monster consoles, right up there with high end PC tech.
I'm not a Nintendo hater, but the game will be top stuff no matter the format. The Wii U version will probably look better than the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, but once the PS4 and Xbox 720 are out, the Wii U will suffer at the hands of publishers which was the case with the Wii. Nintendo need to get the Wii U up to next gen standards to compete.
Most gamers have wised up to Nintendo, more so after the 3DS launch and the fact that new releases for the Wii just died. 3DS sales have dropped, new releases have dried up. I can see Nintendo making a profit from the 3DS and Wii U, but I can't see them hitting as high as Wii sales. What with the Vita, then the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720, Nintendo won't have it easy this time.
@hillbill26 I've never been a fan of white / light grey consoles as they look cold and they discolour (like the Dreamcast and SNES). Also, high gloss consoles are a pain for dust and marks. Microsoft ditched high gloss on their Xbox 360, I hope the Wii U isn't high gloss, but I bet it is. As for the final colour, the silver GameCube looked ace, so that's my vote.
True, there's not much info about the Wii U, but I'm convinced that Nintendo will delay it until early 2013. It might get released in Japan at the end of this year though, so Europe and the US will get it early 2013. We're going into April, the Wii U has gone into hiding down at Nintendo.
@mariosmyhero In the UK, the 3DS launched at £230 without a game, so I'm guessing it'll be well over £300, £400 tops. Nintendo messed up with the 3DS pricing, but I bet they'll be hard faced and try their luck with a high price. I can also see next gen games being £60 to allow for discounting (game prices are front loaded), so you'll be looking at £50 games.
We all know that developers are power mad these days, but with the Wii U being out first, it'll soon be toppled by the power of the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 3. But it's all down to the games, but I don't think the Wii U will sell as much as the Wii (currently around 95 million units). I'm convined Microsoft and Sony will copy the Wii U, add extras, not forgetting they'll be more powerful. I don't even think they'll be room for 3 consoles this time either.
Yes, the Euro release had black borders, a poor conversion by Nintendo. The Rumble version only got released in Japan, another poor move by Nintendo. But the sequel on the GameCube wasn't very good, it wasn't done by the original team. Shocking that there was no Wave Race on the Wii. But looking at how many games Nintendo releases these days, I can't see it happening on the Wii U.
It'll take years for this to come out. Rumour has it that there's going to be an update of Skyward Sword (on the Wii U). Nintendo did the same with Twilight Princess (GameCube to Wii). I can see this happening.
Why wish for stuff like Starfox and F-Zero when the likes of Wave Race and Stunt Race FX have been fed to the dogs over the years? Some Nintendo fans just keep asking for the same old.
Hate to say it, but I think the Wii U will have decent launch games, but not spectacular. On top of that, they'll be showing it off at E3 along with the 3DS, but I just can't see the Xbox 720 being there and more so the PS4. Maybe there's a slim chance about the Xbox 720, the PS4 will probably be shown off at E3 2013. But Microsoft are gagging to get the show on the road with the Xbox 720 which is reported to be 6 times more powerful than the Xbox 360. E3 this year will be all about Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony will just sit back and watch for now...
I know PS1 games looked slightly better when played on a PS2, so it's possible, but as a few people have mentioned, maybe it's down to cost. But I'm not really bothered if this feature isn't included, it'll be great to play Wii U games in HD. When I play Wii and GameCube games on my LCD tele, they do look quite blurry, but they look better on a standard tele. A friend of mine said it's the same case on his LED tele, so I guess old tech consoles are best suited for old teles.

Re: More Tantalising Wii U Pricing Rumours Emerge Online
@wiiwii And it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it's delayed in Europe. Japan will be getting it defo this year, I'd say the US also, but Europe, I'm not so sure. The Wii and 3DS are selling well, so Nintendo can still keep going for a bit if there is a delay in Europe.
Re: Video: See The Brains Behind ZombiU in This Dev Diary
@Araknie I bet it's a decent game, but as we all know, Zombie games are all tied to the same brush. But what annoys me with these games is that it's always a case of limited weapons and ammo, plus Zombies take too long to finish off. I bet Ubisoft are working on a version for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It was the same case with Code Veronica on the Dreamcast which was an exclusive, but it appeared on the PS2 under a slightly different title. There's no way Ubisoft would build a game and just leave it for one console.
Re: 3DS XL Comparison Gallery
@LEGEND_MARIOID I suppose Nintendo waited, then unleased the XL model to make more money. Every company is at it, more so Nintendo. And Nintendo profits are well down, but I can't see the XL doing them many favours.
Re: 3DS XL Comparison Gallery
I heard the graphics look stretched like the DS XL. Think I'll pass.....
Re: Iwata Expects Wii U to Last a Generation
Every console should have a lot of power and a lot of great games, the likes of the Wii for example didn't have that. The next gen console war will all be about power and games, not just one of them. I just can't see the Wii U holding up for long against the Xbox 720 and PS4. I'd say the PS4 will be the monster of the 3 consoles. Nintendo will just bang on releasing the same old games, other publishers will eventually just leave the Wii U like what they did with the Wii. As much as I like Nintendo, I think they've messed up with the Wii U. None of the next gen consoles are out yet and already there's a power war going on.
Re: Metro: Last Light No Longer Confirmed for Wii U
Re: Gearbox: "Wii U is a Powerful, Powerful Machine"
@Henmii The Wii U will never be as powerful as the PS4 and Xbox 720. They'll be built from monster tech, just like a monster PC.
Re: Gearbox: "Wii U is a Powerful, Powerful Machine"
I'm looking forward to the Wii U, but I won't be buying at launch. But I wonder how it'll hold up against the PS4 and Xbox 720?
Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines on Wii U is 'Best-Looking' Version
I'm not a Nintendo hater, but the game will be top stuff no matter the format. The Wii U version will probably look better than the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, but once the PS4 and Xbox 720 are out, the Wii U will suffer at the hands of publishers which was the case with the Wii. Nintendo need to get the Wii U up to next gen standards to compete.
Re: Features: Bizarre Emails Sent to Nintendo Life - Volume 2
@AutumnShantel Rock 'n' Roll Racing was ace on the SNES!
Re: Rumour: Blockbuster UK Lists 25 Wii U Games
@billy-beauts I agree, I think the launch games will just be not bad. I'm still praying for a new Wave Race and Stunt Race FX.
Re: Nintendo Sets 10.5 Million Wii U Sales Target
@rjejr Yes, the target seems a little odd, more so that it includes Wii sales.
Re: Nintendo Sets 10.5 Million Wii U Sales Target
Most gamers have wised up to Nintendo, more so after the 3DS launch and the fact that new releases for the Wii just died. 3DS sales have dropped, new releases have dried up. I can see Nintendo making a profit from the 3DS and Wii U, but I can't see them hitting as high as Wii sales. What with the Vita, then the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720, Nintendo won't have it easy this time.
Re: Talking Point: Why Wii U's Image Must Grab Attention
@hillbill26 I've never been a fan of white / light grey consoles as they look cold and they discolour (like the Dreamcast and SNES). Also, high gloss consoles are a pain for dust and marks. Microsoft ditched high gloss on their Xbox 360, I hope the Wii U isn't high gloss, but I bet it is. As for the final colour, the silver GameCube looked ace, so that's my vote.
Re: Talking Point: Why Wii U's Image Must Grab Attention
True, there's not much info about the Wii U, but I'm convinced that Nintendo will delay it until early 2013. It might get released in Japan at the end of this year though, so Europe and the US will get it early 2013. We're going into April, the Wii U has gone into hiding down at Nintendo.
Re: Gearbox Wants As Much Wii U Power As Possible
@mariosmyhero In the UK, the 3DS launched at £230 without a game, so I'm guessing it'll be well over £300, £400 tops. Nintendo messed up with the 3DS pricing, but I bet they'll be hard faced and try their luck with a high price. I can also see next gen games being £60 to allow for discounting (game prices are front loaded), so you'll be looking at £50 games.
Re: Gearbox Wants As Much Wii U Power As Possible
We all know that developers are power mad these days, but with the Wii U being out first, it'll soon be toppled by the power of the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 3. But it's all down to the games, but I don't think the Wii U will sell as much as the Wii (currently around 95 million units). I'm convined Microsoft and Sony will copy the Wii U, add extras, not forgetting they'll be more powerful. I don't even think they'll be room for 3 consoles this time either.
Re: Wave Race 64
Yes, the Euro release had black borders, a poor conversion by Nintendo. The Rumble version only got released in Japan, another poor move by Nintendo. But the sequel on the GameCube wasn't very good, it wasn't done by the original team. Shocking that there was no Wave Race on the Wii. But looking at how many games Nintendo releases these days, I can't see it happening on the Wii U.
Re: Iwata: Zelda on Wii U Won't Look Cheap
It'll take years for this to come out. Rumour has it that there's going to be an update of Skyward Sword (on the Wii U). Nintendo did the same with Twilight Princess (GameCube to Wii). I can see this happening.
Re: Ono: "Wii U More Capable Than We Saw at E3"
Why wish for stuff like Starfox and F-Zero when the likes of Wave Race and Stunt Race FX have been fed to the dogs over the years? Some Nintendo fans just keep asking for the same old.
Re: Rumour: Wii U Heading for E3 Face-Off with PS4 and Xbox 720
Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Wii U Will Not Make Wii Games Sharper
I know PS1 games looked slightly better when played on a PS2, so it's possible, but as a few people have mentioned, maybe it's down to cost. But I'm not really bothered if this feature isn't included, it'll be great to play Wii U games in HD. When I play Wii and GameCube games on my LCD tele, they do look quite blurry, but they look better on a standard tele. A friend of mine said it's the same case on his LED tele, so I guess old tech consoles are best suited for old teles.
