Re: Talking Point: The Virtual Console's PAL Problem

GarrettCRW

Let's face it: PAL is the red-headed stepchild of the video format universe. Games in the format play too slow and fail to fill the screen, and movies play too fast. NTSC's frame rate, while not ideal, is much better than the sloppy methods that are used to convert film and video games to PAL (which are seldom used, as the European VC situation and the Filmation library can attest to). This does not, however, excuse entertainment companies for not presenting films and games at their proper speed when technology has long since bridged the gap between NTSC and PAL.

Of all the truly great things Ys Book I & II does, it's the voice work that stands out for me. Alan Oppenheimer (Skeletor), Michael Bell (Duke from G.I. Joe), Dan Gilvezan (Bumblebee), and Jim Cummings (Darkwing Duck) anchoring the voice cast, when the next decade saw amateurs fumbling through the same sort of work? Someone at Hudson or NEC was doing their homework in 1990, and forgot to share with the rest of the industry.

Re: Tecmo Bowl

The original Tecmo Bowl had player names, and was specifically endorsed by the NFL Player's Association-in fact, there are three versions of the rosters: the original, with Eric Dickerson on the Colts, a revised version without Dickerson, and the Japanese release, which updated rosters from the '87 season to the '89 season.
