I wouldn't mind seeing a revisit of the "adventure field" concept, assuming a decent percentage of the terrain is optimized for running flat out with a presence of side objectives. I suppose linear A to B stages would still be compulsory, since sandboxes only work as a main staple for characters that move slower than 500 mph in my opinion.
Add to that Super Sonic replayability; blasting throughout an expansive hub world to reach previously hidden objectives, or soaring through an action stage with new found jumping height / speed. Yes please.
If classic Sonic becomes a thing again, I really hope they give him back his sprite-physics that he was noticeably lacking in Generations. On that note, Super Sonic is supposed to have a higher jump. >.<
