Super Mario Bros. Movie DVD, Blu-ray And 4K Steelbook Pre-Orders Are Now Live

Do they usually make films available to pre-order as soon as it hits the cinema? It seems bizarre timing.

I think I'll make this movie my first blu-ray purchase. I've been sticking to DVD thus far, but this seems appropriate for me to finally go to blu-ray for.

Just need an actual blu-ray player though lol.

That star tin looks really cool! Though, it would be a little inconvenient to fit in my blu-ray library... But I may jump on it anyway!

@Vexx234 I'm pretty sure, this is a place holder design. This happens very often with Blu-ray releases.

Just read my first review of the film, ouch! Not to yank anyone’s yum and it was in the guardian, so a bit of snobbery there….

@FragRed Some do, Babylon which was released in January had a Steelbook available around the time it opened in the Cinema.

@KIRO I have seen it already (took the children to first showing this morning!) and it's very entertaining, yes the story is straightforward, but it's great!! Plus there were a number of threads they could explore in future movies.

The steelbook does indeed look pretty cool, though I will more than likely be purchasing this film digitally. I am trying to avoid adding any more clutter to my home, and I hardly ever play any movies through disks these days.

HMV has a really sweet looking 4K bluray. The disc holder is a power star! (also includes the steelbook as well)
Pricey at £40, but I am mad enough to have pre-ordered it just now! xD

I'll likely get the 4K disc... when it's $10... and if the movie is actually good.

So we can pre-order the film before even pre-ordering the soundtrack? Once upon a time, those came out before a film or the week of at the latest

That feels very quick the movie just been out and the steel book just looks so underwhelming.

I actually like the look of the Star tin more than the Steelbook, but it looks like it only comes with a standard BD instead of a 4K one.

@Yosher I'm with you there, I don't have a Blu Ray player either. The latest physical media player I own is the PS2 lol

I did pick up a Toad&Kart toy for my desk, it's pretty great--It's a bulky dang thing!

I'll pre-order the 4K Blu Ray copy, have both a PS5 and a Series X so I'm golden.

I think it would be smart to wait towards the end of the year when the 4K disc will be on sale for $12.

The van is really cool. The fact that it opens up AND comes with Mario made it an instant buy for me at Gamestop. Especially for ~$15.

I also preordered the Walmart Super Star Steelbook. They wanted to charge $7 shipping since it wasn't $35 so I threw on a $5 eshop card. Looks WAY better than the Best Buy one.

Can't believe DVD's are still around. They're the absolute worst current format by far to the point even streaming from the middle of the Australian outback would look better lol

Blu- ray is the same price almost every single time and it is infinitely better quality in every single possible way ...literally. Even the disc itself is more durable. I suppose those still buying DVD's may not have other options but decent Blu-ray players are dirt cheap as well now ...and that is not even mentioning the fact every single PS4, Xbox One S, One X, Series X and PS5 come with a quality player built right in.

@Alphacoolpatriot not all 4K UHD discs work in the Series X. There’s a bug in the app that Microsoft hasn’t fixed, nor do they seem to plan to do it either. I’ve had to switch to my PS5 for the format for recent movies.

DVD? Thats reaching quite far back, why not go all the way back to vhs?

@Ironcore Hardly anyone buys VHS tapes or uses VHS anymore but i guess some people still buy DVD discs and not blu ray discs. I wonder why people stick with dvd even though blu ray is quite cheap and built in also in many devices.

I think the leap from vhs to dvd was much bigger though, compared to the next leap, dvd to blu ray.

I mean, there is a big difference between dvd in 480 p and blu ray in 720 p or 1080 p. Especially on bigger screens. But the difference between vhs and dvd was just huge.

This'll be the second 4K Blu-Ray I get (after Turning Red), 5th Steelbook total (after Sausage Party, Moana, Coco and Turning Red). I'm gonna assume it'll be released exclusive to Best Buy, like the aforementioned 4K Steelbook of Turning Red.

@Yosher well if you have ps4 or xbox one (or newer) you can use that to play bluray... (and in case of UHD Bluray xbox one s or ps5)

@Vil @Simon97 Blu Ray discs are more expensive and for me, I can't tell a difference in the picture, so why would I bother spending an extra $5 to $10? Must be enough people like me still as DVD only or DVD/Blu Ray combos are readily available.

Also - if you don't won an Xbox or PS system, you don't have that blu ray built in to anything.

@teamdave2002 Totally, if you could not spot the difference between bluray and dvd, then stick with the dvd. I prefer bluray but it depends ont hings like how close to the tv you are, how big the tv is.... if the tv is small then dvd might be enough. For a big tv, bluray or 4k resolution seems like the better option.

4K movies are quite expensive and i actually do not own a 4k tv yet but if i get a 4k tv i might start buying 4k discs if they get a bit more cheap.

Why is there no 3D version?

For some reason, I can't see 3D properly in the cinema anymore, but I can in my VR headset, so I really want to watch this in 3D at home on my VR headset.

How can these companies not see the future leading towards showing their movies in stereoscopic 3D in VR--it boggles my mind.

I am waiting to see which version will come with a digital download too, as I prefer that..but would like the disc to have any special features. So far none advise if they come with digital version too
