The Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed by nearly four months and will now launch on November 14th, 2023.
Original slated for July 25th, 2023, developer Avalanche Software states that the delay is to allow the team to create "the best possible experience". The game was recently released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 5th, 2023, allowing it to once again top the UK boxed charts.
Initially announced back in September 2020, Hogwarts Legacy suffered from multiple delays. Originally expected to launch in 2021, it was delayed to 2022, then to February 2023. The Switch version was then expected to come later in July 2023, but this latest delay puts it nearly nine months behind the initial console release.

Well delay is better than canceled. I think I will double dip at this point on Series X and then switch.
Has there been any switch game footage released yet? I’m hoping they really start to share a lot so I can decide if I want the switch or the ps4 version.
I dont mind waiting as long as it run decently

@PBandSmelly
Which would in turn screw over all the people who actually worked on the game, while not affecting Rowling at all.
Saw this one coming, but it's still disappointing in the short term. Where is Hermione's Time-Turner when you need it? On the plus side, it seems the developers really do care about delivering a maximally decent experience for those who will play the game on Nintendo Switch.
Delaying the release to the Holidays is smart not only to create the best possible experience but also a way to get people to go bananas as it will be right at the start of the Holiday Season.
Wanted this on the switch but kids couldn’t wait so got the ps4 copy. Will double dip
Given how good the ps4/Xbox one port seems to be I’m really curious how this port will be.

I commend them for carrying on with the game, but at this point why not just cancel?
The Switch is clearly struggling to handle the game and even further tweaks are required from what we have on PS4 and Xbox One.
Most people that will have wanted to play the game will have played it and moved on by the time the Switch version releases.
It's great if you want to play it, but don't fret too much about it being delayed.
After playing a couple of hours, I realized that only the first hour was great, the remaining 29 hours of adventure is just copypaste marker activities.
Not to mention they managed to make a plothole as big as the ones in the book, which is amusing
Lol, if I wanted to release a big budget AAA title, I'd give Tears of the Kingdom plenty of breathing room too! Come on, it's WB.
@PBandSmelly Yeah! How DARE she stand up for biological women's rights?!!
Switch 2 in November confirmed. Actually, I'm simply expecting the Switch version to not run well at all, no matter how long devs work on it.
One step from going the same way as Midnight Suns.
@SleeplessKnight And since when were human rights a zero sum game?
obviously the current switch is the issue for the delays maybe it should be shelved until the new switch comes out..

Hey Nintendolife, you forgot your usual warning at the top of the comments ! 😊
@Kiz3000 Because many people do not own more than one platform, simple as that. Nier Automata released on the Switch years after it released on everything else and sold well. So did the Persona games. There is obviously a significant demographic of Switch gamers for whom 'if you were interested you would have bought it on another system' is obviously not true.
I'm not confident this game will run great on the Switch. It'll most likely be 720p docked, obviously have no ray-tracing and be lucky to average 30 fps.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a game in development from Nintendo's TOP studio for SIX years has performance issues at times. It's clear we need a Switch 2 or Switch "Pro" soon.
With Zelda now in the people's hand this is, in a way, the best that could happen for them as they will not only have enough time to polish the game but also have plenty of time for people to finish Zelda and look for the next adventure.
I’m intrigued by this game and will keep an eye on it. When I have more time to look into it, I might buy it during a sale. I’m not a huge potterhead but do enjoy the movies, so I’m not sure if it’s for me or not.
Just bring EAs Harry Potter from Gamecube to Switch in HD. 😂
Just can it already it's clearly not gonna run probably this is like the 3rd delay for this version the hardware just isn't up to the task it's not like the game hasn't sold enough already
The absence of proper gameplay footage = the game can't run acceptably on the switch. And, yet another game where the switch version comes out WAY later than other platforms. I'm so tired of it.
@blindsquarel didn't all the developers get paid already? they don't pay the devs every time a copy gets sold
Good thing I caved and bought it on XBox I guess. It's to be expected; honestly can't imagine it running so well on the Switch, which is a pity. Saying that, I haven't played it for ages cos of other games. But having recently become a Potter fan (20 years too late 😜) it's fun to go back from time to time and see the references.
@SleeplessKnight
She doesn't actually care for that. She wants to murder trans people. She wants people like me to die for no reason.
I’m vary interested to see how this game runs on the switch, I am of the opinion it can’t but if they can make it work, that I have to see.
@SleeplessKnight Yeah- as PBandSmelly said- being against trans people.. existing and not doing anything wrong isn't caring for their rights. Trans people arent trying to take away rights and more so just want to live their lives without hurting anyone else in the process. Being more inclusive does not hurt rights in any way- people just often take it that way.
@blindsquarel I get what you mean, but it's games man. Those people would probably be rewarded with layoffs even with record profits.
I can't wait to see how much of a disaster the port is going to be because i refuse to believe it run ok on Switch.
@blindsquarel Whoop-dee-doo.
@PBandSmelly I agree she's transphobic but she's never wished death or harm on the Trans community.
Are we sure Sony hasn’t got anything to do with this?
Still waiting on Genshin Impact and Final Fantasy VII Remake on other consoles, although promised…
@WallyWest
You clearly have never seen her tweets and surplus donations to hate groups. You have no idea what I have to go through everyday because of people like her

@PBandSmelly
Bro I’m mixed. In the southern United States.
Everyone is going to go through crap in life.
Don’t let them control your emotions. Stand tall, walk with pride, and ignore them.
The loading times on the Xbox One X are so bad, I bought an external SSD and moved the game there. Now load times are good. The game though is kinda boring. They call it open world, but so much guided hand-holding and non-interactive scenes there is not much to "explore" (yet, I'm still playing).

I’ve had to defend myself physically from a few racists in my time. They tend to scatter quick once they see a Jericho 9mm pointed at their chest, though.
And what country are you in? In the US you cannot deny someone life saving surgery for any reason whatsoever in the ER. It may bankrupt you due to our flawed medical system, but they cannot deny you for any reason.

@PBandSmelly Show me ONE actual article or sound bite where she actually said that...go ahead I'll wait...
A reminder that if discussion can’t be had without insulting and flaming other people, the comments will be closed.
I can handle a game delay as long as it's not cancelled after the delay that would irks me worse.

Here. One of many. I have lots. Believe victims.
@PBandSmelly Not true
At least there is more of a real target date now. That seems like a very positive development. I really think they will attempt to optimize this game well. It will sell several millions on the Switch.
As someone who probably wouldn't be getting it day 1 anyway, I'm actually encouraged to hear that they're demonstrating that they're taking this port seriously and putting effort into it.
If persona 5 royal managed to get a solid switch port then who’s to say that this won’t get one either?

Think I’m gonna walk away from this one.
It’s gotten out of my pay grade.
On the subject at hand I’m very curious to see how the game runs on Switch. The PS4 and Xbone versions run surprisingly well for a game that was built with the PS5 and Series X in mind from early on in the cycle.
@westmeadow As someone who probably wouldn't be getting it day 1 anyway
Only doing for the bonus they offer for Day1/PreOrder.
@Greatluigi That was a PS3 game initially (Royal added stuff but the core of the game was made for PS3). The scope of the games (open world, real time combat vs segmented areas/turn based RPG) are also completely different, the former being much more demanding.
I don’t doubt that they could get a good version of this running; after seeing stuff like Doom, Nier Automata and Witcher 3 on Switch playing as well as they do nothing that plays on PS4/Xbox One seems off the cards for me. It’ll just take a lot of work hence the delay
Removed - discussing moderation
The fact we never saw switch footage at all was a sign of a delay or a cancellation. Just happy it's a delay.
@PBandSmelly As you can see above, inappropriate remarks from various people have been removed here, not only yours.
