There have been enough Pokémon Scarlet and Violet glitches posted to the internet in the past few weeks to fill a Pokédex three times over. But no matter how hard we try to look away, another one comes along that we can't help but go... "what??"
One such glitch was documented on a stream by @RyanWasTakenToo who, while on the hunt for some shiny 'mon, came across one hiding in the most infuriating of places. With a pest control-level of searching required, it turns out that we all might have missed shinies in the walls.
The streamer posted the following clip to Twitter, showing how he came across the rare Frigibax and, fortunately, managed to catch it.
Never mind the pain of shiny hunting at the best of times, it looks like the grind is going to get a whole lot harder thanks to this boundary-blurring bug. Anyone who has searched for a shiny before knows the pain of exploring an area for hours on end, noting every respawn and location. Now imagine how much worse this would be if you also had to keep an eye on what is going on inside the walls. A step too far, figuratively and literally.
To make matters worse, it doesn't look like this was the only instance of shiny-as-insulation in the games. Many other players have taken to Twitter to share similar experiences like @mmmkip and @keebyyyy - the unreachable latter of which looks all the more hair-pulling.
Whether the addition of an overworld shiny notification sound would fix this or make it even more excruciating, we can't be sure. But the one thing that is for certain if you're heading out to Paldea on a shiny hunt: check your walls.
Have you come across a similar bit of Shiny wall-hopping? Let us know in the comments!

This game just keeps on giving.
Yeah, I've wondered how many shinies I might have lost to walls when I was in the middle of an eevee mass outbreak and noticed many of them spawning inside the mountain
Shiny hunting this Gen sucks, at least give a tiny sound like in PLA or little notification on top of the screen that would’ve helped especially color blind people..idk why Gamefreak keeps making stupid decisions, such as shiny locking pokemon & now removing any indications if a shiny appears on screen.
Sounds like Pokemon players are going insane.
"The shinies...in the walls! I can hear them!"
I bet that the game would run better if it didn't populate unreachable areas with Pokemon...
Wow, this game really is a massive hot mess
Sometimes life isn't fair, It's a good life lesson.
Wall, wall, wall.
What is this "collision detection" they all talk about? - Gamfreak devs probably.
at least you can get a lot of surprise shinies outside of shiny hunting. ive caught 7 so far just by playing the game normally and trying to finish the pokedex, so missing a couple bc they spawned in the walls really isnt that bad imo
Pokemon SV is shining for all the wrong reasons 😂
The game knew about how easy getting a shiny is in those games.
@Dragonite89 and on top of everything you mentioned, most of the new Gen 9 Pokémon’s shiny forms are barely any different from the regular forms. Very hard to spot in the overworld.
The walls...
THEY'RE IN THE GOT DAMN WALLS!!!
I've seen wild Pokemon clipping into walls. So, no reason to think the shiny ones wouldn't as well.
At least they won't run away....
@g_ruz I admit I haven't seen the others, but all my 3 shinies are new pokemon from gen 9 and they all stood out like a radiating sore thumb
@Dragonite89 RIGHT?! I've spent HOURS trying to discern the difference between a normal Flittle and shiny one...because it's a palette switch from pink to green...under their ruffle.
I definitely loved the PLA mechanic with the sound and animation.
I'm kind of split on how I feel about shinies in this game. I do definitely feel like I have to have missed some in this game, between how small many Paldea Pokemon are and the total lack of a notification, but I've had pretty good luck with them regardless.
Thus far caught Gabite, Bronzor, Donphan, Glimmora, Veluza, Brute Bonnet, and three Flutter Manes.
Side issue, but the shinies of the new mons are kinda bad except for the pokemon near the end (I dunno how to spoiler tag)
I always try and breed a couple of the ones I like and honestly, Pawmot was the only one I liked, got him though (fast too I might add) before swiftly trading in the game since ranked matches weren't out and I'm an impatient soul and my backlog was giving me evils.
@Dr_Corndog Dude. Lord Quackingstick... you are amazing.
This game is comedy gold.
wonder how many shiny bagons I missed waiting at the spawnpoint with 2 sandwiches
