In addition to this, digital purchases elsewhere will also be made available. This will come with a new Sonic Movie 2 animated short titled 'Sonic Drone Home'. Here's a teaser via Tails' Channel:
The Sonic 2 movie will follow with a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD release on 9th August (thanks, GoNintendo).
Original article [Thu 28th Apr, 2022 02:09 BST]: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 might have only just been released in cinemas, but it seems the movie could make its way across to Paramount's streaming service very soon.
According to the news website SEGAbits (via IGN), Sonic the Hedgehog's second movie outing will reportedly be arriving on the streaming subscription service Paramount+ next month on 24th May.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released in cinemas in late March (in certain parts of the world) and debuted in the United States on 8th April. In the US, it's now officially become the biggest video game movie opening ever - and is nearing $300 million at the international box office.
Paramount and Sega also have plans to release a live-action Knuckles series starring Idris Elba via Paramount+. If we hear any updates about Sonic 2's Paramount+ release date, we'll let you know.

That would be cool. I have paramount +. But I have to admit, it's one of my least favorite streaming services. Jack@$$ forever saved it for me thus far lol.
I have been waiting for it to come out on paramount + to see it, so I hope its soon.
Now I can finally tell my stupid friends that think they are "real Sonic fans" just because they know a little about lore and watched Sonic Movie 2 that probably don't even know what a "Sonic Screensaver" is, that I have also watched it.
Paramount Plus won't be available here in Ireland until the Summer. No specific date yet so I'm hoping it will be available on Netflix or Disney Plus as I use those. If not I'll just buy it when it becomes available on the Microsoft Store as they sell movies in 4K now.
Nice, I subscribed recently for dirt cheap. Can't wait to watch this movie.
Yar har fiddle dee dee
There's no Paramount+ here in the Philippines yet but the first Sonic movie is on Netflix.
I'm hoping the second movie and the Knuckles show end up on Netflix here too, or else I would have to get Paramount+ to watch the movie and series legitimately, while my family doesn't want to get additional streaming services unless they have a good supply of Korean dramas so we could save money.
That said, Paramount is quite loyal with releasing their TV shows on Blu-ray or DVD. However, they still haven't released the third and fourth seasons of 13 Reasons Why on DVD, even if they released the first two seasons.
Hopefully, the inevitable Sonic box set would include the Knuckles the Echidna show in Blu-ray or even 4K UHD.
Paramount makes great 4K box sets with the likes of Indiana Jones and The Godfather.
@RubyCarbuncle yeah they don't have it in the UK unfortunately I'm just going to wait for a webrip which should happen pretty much as soon as it goes on paramount +
I have the paramount + app on my PS5, I’ll watch it that way.
@Hydra_Spectre You can always use a VPN service, with many that are free. Though I'd recommend a paid service like NordVPN as they are a little more reputable.
@Hydra_Spectre Paramount has done some great 4K releases.
My only gripe of sorts is the digital side of these releases as I love VUDU and or MoviesAnywhere and would love to have everything in one place. So hopefully Paramount someday joins the MoviesAnywhere bandwagon like Apple, Google, VUDU, and others have done. Being able to link all your services in one place is a nice thing.
Why not on DVD anymore? Or DVDs going non-existent now? If so, that's bull****! Some of us can't afford streaming services. What happened to 2019 levels where streaming-only didn't exist?
@Nico07 Yes. I can't redeem the iTunes digital codes here in the Philippines. And the US Paramount 4K releases often have no standard Blu-ray disc.
The Japanese 4K UHD release of The Godfather Trilogy is much better for me as it's the only way to get the remastered standard Blu-ray Disc for the original The Godfather: Part III.
The US standard 50th Anniversary Blu-ray box set of The Godfather Trilogy only has The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone even if the 4K UHD version has the original cut.
I also hate how Paramount rarely allows boutique companies like Shout! Factory, Arrow and Criterion to make 4K UHD versions of their catalogue.
Scream Factory's Collector's Editions of Event Horizon and Escape from L.A. are standard-only despite being sourced from 4K masters.
Thankfully, Paramount allowed Criterion to release The Piano in 4K UHD, and as one of their 4K UHD releases too.
Movies Anywhere, however, I can redeem here since I tried subscribing for it using a VPN and it works well.
Anyways, the good VPNs are way too expensive for us as well. And the free ones are too terrible for streaming. I also really want The Criterion Channel but I couldn't get it as well.
Yeah just like Scream and Jackass it's on a 45 day window. Everyone knew this.
Paramount+ is a great streaming service. Surprisingly very ethical. It's only like $4.99 a month, compared to Netflix's whopping $14.99 and rising with new restrictions on passwords and other anti-consumer measures. HBO Max is also like 15 bucks.
I took out a one-month free trial of Paramount--which is much better than most other streaming services, which give you only like seven days. Before my trial was up, they sent me an e-mail reminding me to cancel my subscription if I didn't want to be charged. What corporation who wants to make money DOES that? They even had a link in the e-mail that took me directly to my account settings where I could cancel. Most services like to tuck that kind of stuff away where you can never find it. I went to cancel, and they offered me a discount on my next two months if I stayed. It was ridiculously cheap price, too, so I didn't even bother canceling for a while because it was such a negligent amount coming out of my bank account every month.
That customer service really left an impression on me, and I wish more companies were that way. Ironically, when you don't go out of your way to nickel-and-dime your customers, you end up making even more money because they've developed a level of brand loyalty and trust. Who'd have thunk it??? It's like...sorcery or something.
Granted--their original programming like Kamp Koral and Fairly Odder kinda suck. Terrible reboots no one asked for. But I enjoy having an archive of classic content I grew up with. Also, getting to watch some shows that were before my time. I've enjoyed finally checking out Ren and Stimpy as well as Ahhhh! Real Monsters. The latter of which I only took interest in because of NASB, but it's a good show.
I guess I should close with an obligatory "put more streaming services on Switch!" My TV only has two HDMI inputs which is really annoying, so I hardly ever stream because I don't like dealing with that nonsense. Having the apps on my Switch would be a game changer.
@Not_Soos My final straw for getting Paramount+ is if they have 4K remasters of The Godfather Trilogy, including both the original The Godfather: Part III and its re-edited version The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone.
Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ and HBO Max seems more like my preferred streaming service for Western content, Criterion Channel is great for arthouse cinema, while Netflix is for Asian content (mostly anime and Korean dramas). Amazon Prime Video is great for blockbuster Western content (and some anime like the Rebuild of Evangelion Saga and Vinland Saga).
Crunchyroll is also great for anime.
The only one I have is Netflix while I just pirate everything else. Thankfully, Netflix Philippines sometimes overlaps content with Crunchyroll.
@KingBowser It'll be released on DVD in late June
Good. I don't really go to the cinema much
@RubyCarbuncle It'll probably be on Now/Sky, definitely won't be coming to Disney+.
Wow, that's stupid fast, I just saw it in theaters last week. With how soon movies come to streaming, it's rarely ever worth going to the theater these days. It's really not fair for the industry and a real shame. Also being on Paramount + (yuck), that's like the worst streaming service.
This is becoming standard now, The Batman is already on streaming. Sonic 2 is a really fun film though with a great end credits sequence and a cool scene after the credits finish. There’s loads of references and throwbacks to the early games too. Well worth a couple of viewings.
Seems like the new norm is a roughly 6-8 week cinema run before a film drops on streaming, followed by the physical media release a few weeks after that.
There is no Knuckles series BTW. It's a Sonic series (literally called 'Sonic: The Series'), they just confirmed Idris Elba would reprise his role as Knuckles in it during the announcement. This has oddly flown over even some of the hardcore Sonic fans heads.
Awesome! Outside of soccer, I don't use my Paramount account for much. I am looking forward to watching the Halo series though when I get a chance.
@Hydra_Spectre
Disney+, Hulu and HBO Max all not available in Philippines also, but the ones they do have can be a lot cheaper. HBO Go is a bargain at ₱150 (around £2.20) compared to other countries, along with YouTube Premium, Spotify, Apple One, Discovery+, Prime Video and soon GamePass for PC.
https://slickdeals.net/f/15755509-free-1-month-trial-of-paramount-streaming-service-for-new-and-returning-members
Here's a code for paramount+ that turns a 1 week trial into 1 month trial (in case anyone wants to watch it & can't afford to subscribe): use code WALMART30 at checkout. I can remove the link if that's not allowed, but i wanted to give credit.
@Matty1988 That's a relief. So DVDs are not going anywhere I take it?
@KingBowser I dunno but in my experience they seem to be slowly losing market share to Bluray and streaming. I tend to only buy Bluray's of films I really like, or where I want to support the director.
Would be great. The Sooner it hits online, the sooner I can watch it more easily.
@Matty1988 Well that's great. Hate that this is the new norm. I hope DVDs and Blu-ray stay on the market as some of us can't afford the number of streaming apps out there all at once.
Thats awesome, just told my kids and they're stoked.
I have a Samsung smart Tv and apparently paramount plus app just doesn’t work for us half the time. Frustrating.
You know, that short's animation looks nice and expressive, I like it.
@OFFICIALMichi I had to get a roku because my sony tv doesn't play nice with other apps because Google and ATT are enemies I guess.
smart tvs are the worst thing to ever happen to tvs. I hate them passionately.
@Sonos
Smart TVs have so much untapped potential, but they keep screwing it up every damn time a new update comes out. TV gets slower, TV gets glitchy, and they are so restrictive.
@ModdedInkling In my experience with my personal $2,000 Sony television - I'd take a non-smart tv over it 100 out of 100 times. They are the worst and in no way benefit me - and benefits Sony/Google greatly with them tracking my habits.
I'm in the middle of a move now I won't be making the same mistake again. Besides headphones, Sony has become such a crummy company.
Been available on the free streaming sites for like a month..but uh good news I guess for those who like having 8 different streaming platforms.
People should be watching Everything Everywhere All At Once instead though, as that is a masterpiece of cinema and not just a CGI fest of booms and bangs like nearly everything else.
Remember when people whined about a random name not being in the poster? Yet, another recent video game movie (Uncharted) did something similar by not crediting who is arguably the best actor among that cast and... no one said a thing.
Sonic fans are relentless, lol.
On this same day, Paramount Network starts in Holland
From the 22 June in UK Paramount+ will be no extra cost on Sky provided you have Sky Cinema, so I've heard
@Not_Soos I agree. I did a couple of free trials and a couple of months reduced subscription through the Fire stick last year and they were pretty good about letting you know when the trial or sale price was ending.
I also had a similar experience with Showtime. Did a free month trial to watch the show Yellowjackets. The day before the trial was up, I went to cancel and they offered me an additional free month not to. Granted, there wasn't much beyond that on there I was interested in or hadn't watched elsewhere. But I thought it was pretty sweet of them to do that.
Seems to be US only. I have Paramount+ here in Norway, Europe and none of the Sonic movies are available for streaming! /shrug
the first one was on prime, so that sucks
@InkIdols It's beyond infuriating, since these are Paramount films. So there is no reason as to why it's not available for streaming in Europe on their own friggin' streaming service I pay full price for each month!
