It seems Pokémon's 25th anniversary celebrations haven't ended just yet - with the animated series Pokémon Journeys announcing it will be airing a one-hour special in Japan on April 1st. This will line up with 25 years of the anime series, which originally debuted on the same date in 1997.
This special will be comprised of two brand new episodes. The first one titled "Ash & Clemont! Special Friendship Training" sees Ash travel to Lumiose City to battle in the World Coronation Series. Here he reunites with his X and Y companions, Clemont and Bonnie, but something goes wrong with Sirfetch'd.
In the second episode of this mini-arc "Ultra Class! VS Elite Four Drasna!", Ash takes on the Elite Four member Drasna in the same tournament. This will be followed by a third episode, which will apparently air on 8th April. It's titled "A New Show! The Team Rocket Undercover Kingdom Radio!!".
Have you kept up with the Pokémon anime in recent years? How about the games? Tell us down below.

So, no mention of Serena?
Pokemon, the cult classic that inspired shows such as Berserk and Neon Genesis Evangelion, is finally getting a one-hour episode to flex on all the other anime show wannabes.
NINJA APPROVED.
@BloodNinja Funnily enough, Pokémon and Berserk 1997 are both OLM anime.
Why does Ash have a moustache?
So they're announcing an April Fool's joke? That's new. lol
...Okay maybe it isn't new, whatever, shut up. xD
@Brady1138 Because he was 10 almost 25 years ago. Dude’s 35 now.
@Ade117 The more you know!
Why is his mouth line sooo wide. He looks like a muppet XD.
@Brady1138 that’s not just a moustache, it’s the start of a Wario-stache
I have indeed kept up with it. Crazy that it's been 25 years. I remember watching season 1 while it was first airing (started in about halfway through the very long season).
@Olmectron
I was wondering the same thing. Would be a shame if she's not part of it too. Also, I suppose it'll be quite a while until it airs in English, as is the norm.
Seeing this makes me miss the X&Y it's artstyle even more.
I keep up as best as I can by watching episodes on the Pokèmon TV app. Pokèmon stopped being aired here in Ireland years ago as far as I know which was hateful as I always looked forward to it because of the comedy. I miss the original Anime 🙁
I'm not sure I get it, they are visiting Kalos with the Alola arc artstyle? And (on a timeline) it happens after the Alola arc?
@Olmectron We don't know.
I really like the new style they have in the more modern series, especially when they apply it to characters who were originally only in the old style. Clemont and Bonnie look great!
@Bobb Yeah, that summed it up.
When did Ash get a catface?
That's supposed to be Ash? He looks...off.
@Bobb I think this seems to take place right after the last episode in journeys left off, as he’s still in the world coronation series
XY was probably a really good anime. I feel they should have ended Ash’s run there with his stacked team and Greninja and just made Bonnie a protagonist or something. Instead, they ran out of ideas and if we don’t get the world coronation in canon code Pokémon games I will be upset.
XY special doesn’t feel special without Serena
They should start each gen with new protagonists to keep the anime fresh and welcoming to new audiences.
Ash is a nostalgic character for me, since I watched the first few seasons as a kid, but it's crazy he is still around as a kid instead of as a Gym Leader or something.
I like to think that humans in Pokémon don’t age and evolve like Pokemon do. So Ash can stay a child for many years.
XY&Z in my opinion is runner up in the best pokemon anime, being beat by the OG.
But I do think it had some of ashes best moments, and actually showed growth, and had one of the better artstyles.
It must be so refreshing to live and work in a country where they don't "celebrate" the worst video game event of the year - April Fool's day.
It is the 26th anniversary after all.
@Neoicelord Thanks for the input!
